As funding challenges continue to threaten their survival, public libraries are teaming up with local public housing authorities to keep costs down and doors open. In these partnerships, the library provides its services to a traditionally underserved community while the housing authority shoulders the cost of building and maintaining a facility.

Rondo | Saint Paul Public Library
Rondo Community Outreach Library of the Saint Paul Public Library - There are over 90 apartments and 6 townhomes -- called the University Dale Apartments -- that are part of the Rondo Community Outreach Library building. Laundry facilities are available on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. Enclosed parking is on the floor above the library. There is on-site management with an office, a community room for renters to use for events, and a meeting room in the apartment office.

Deldridge Branch of the Seattle Public Library - The branch anchors the first floor of a three-story building that includes 19 apartments on the top two floors. AND the International District/Chinatown Branch of the Seattle Public Library -- The $735,000 branch is located inside International District Village Square II, in space leased from the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority. The complex also includes 57 units of affordable family housing, a community center, retail space, and underground parking, which branch patrons can pay to use.
