The 25 Most Rewatchable Movies Of All Time | FiveThirtyEight
“If you’re looking to do a heteronormative couple’s night and need to agree on a movie, it appears the best choice might be to pop in one of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies or ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ Apparently, both men and women are drawn to stories where an out-of-towner and a loyal lapdog team up to pass through a region of abnormally short residents on the advice of a magical entity and join a mission to solve a convoluted geopolitical struggle alongside an eclectic coterie of traveling companions — a stalwart guardian, an axe-toting hothead and an enigmatic denizen of the woods — in order to once again return to their bucolic existences.1

“That, or ‘The Princess Bride’ might be a good call. Great film.

“Still, there are differences in taste: Films in the men’s top 20 but not the women’s include ‘Pulp Fiction,’ ‘The Matrix,’ ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Goodfellas.’ Films disproportionately favored by women include ‘Dirty Dancing,’ the ‘Harry Potter’ series, ‘Pretty Woman,’ ‘Grease’ and ‘Titanic.’”

The Best Movies That Are Kind Of About Christmas | FiveThirtyEight
“You find yourself at a party where everyone is talking about favorite Christmas movies. Sure, you could say ‘Elf,’ which you know in the deep ventricles of your cold and bitter heart is an uplifting film that inspires you annually. But instead, you go for the classic: ‘Oh, my favorite Christmas movie is ‘Die Hard.’’

“What a clever thing you just did! You have cemented your credibility not only as a person who understands the subtext of action movies, but also an unconventional viewer who has surveyed the holiday canon and concluded that, nah, Bruce Willis saving Christmas is more your deal. At this point in the party you will light a cigarette and ride away from the conversation on your motorcycle.”

(And for good measure, here’s their tweet about this article:

Trump Has Made U.S. Policy Much More Resistant To Immigration — Without The Wall | FiveThirtyEight
But while understanding his reasoning is important, there’s little dispute about the effects of Trump’s policies. Wall or no, a lot has already happened, and more big changes could be on the way. The wall is a story. But the story is how Trump has already remade U.S. immigration policy.

It’s Easier Than Ever To Get The Recommended Amount Of Exercise | FiveThirtyEight
“The new advice in a nutshell: Sit less and move more. What matters most is your total activity — whether it’s continuous or not — and every step counts. As before, the guidelines call for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, unless the exercise is vigorous, in which case you only need 75 to 150 minutes per week. The guidelines also call for some kind of strength exercises twice per week.

“The new guidelines make it much easier to notch those 22 minutes per day, at least in theory. Previous guidelines said that activity needed to last at least 10 minutes before benefits started accruing, but based on the latest evidence, the new guidelines say that activity is cumulative, and even minute-long spurts can make you healthier. ‘That’s a sea change. Everything counts,’ said Abby King, a professor of medicine at Stanford who co-chaired the guidelines committee.”

How Republicans Made Gains In The Senate | FiveThirtyEight
Depending on how things shake out in the remaining races, it’s possible that 30 of 35 Senate races (86 percent) will have voted for the same party that won the state at the presidential level in 2016.1 Compared to past elections, that rate would be very high for a midterm.
