Cele|bitchy | Duchess Kate ‘does not feel she has to compete’ with Duchess Meghan now
The Duchess of Cambridge is competitive AF. It is known. Perhaps it was even an admirable quality at one point, back when Kate was a sporty girl at a posh school. But her competitive drive took a weird turn when she got with Prince William. She would “compete” with William’s side-chicks and female friends by copying their looks and style. Then when Prince Harry started dating Meghan Markle, Kate’s competitive side developed into something quite odd. Suddenly, after so many years, Kate was throwing herself into work and showing how keen she could be, all to show up Meghan. She threw together a “substantial” issue portfolio called the Early Years initiative, aka the Struggle Survey, at the very last minute. She was incredibly keen to be dressed up like a Future Queen, with lots of tiaras and diamonds (while the Queen cut off Meghan’s access to the royal jewels). Keen Competitive Kate was positioned as the perfect (white) English rose (cough) to Meghan’s deranged American.
...
When the Sussexit was announced, I knew what this would mean for Kate’s larger schedule and vibe. The lack of competition would mean that Kate would regress. She would no longer need the massive embiggening campaign. She would no longer need to even try a little bit. Still, I thought the regression would take a few months. Apparently not – according to the Sun’s “insider,” Kate has been regressing for months and we didn’t even notice.
...
See, that was why Kate’s style was so bonkers during the Irish tour! Ol’ girl was just trying to simplify her post-Meghan style with her deranged clown ruffles and Irish flag cosplay. What I enjoy about this piece is how blunt it is about Kate’s jealousy and pettiness. After all that embiggening and all of Kate’s stalwart defenders arguing that “it’s not a competition” between Kate and Meghan, turns out it was. Turns out Kate “was afraid of comparisons being drawn between them and that Meghan was the one who looked glamorous and popular for a while.” FOR A WHILE. Besides all of that, it’s yet another way to blame Meghan for something: it’s Meghan’s fault that poor Kate was so intimidated and tried so hard to be glamorous and exciting, thank God Meghan is gone.
---
@JA Lowcountry Lady, I think Charles is satisfied with this outcome because it shuts William up, for the moment. For reasons I’ve explained before I don’t believe Charles is jealous in the same way he was in the Diana years. Had Meghan been truly accepted into the family, I could easily see photo ops with Charles (like the wedding), and with William and Kate (if those two had any ounce of PR savvy). Someone said it some time ago – maybe you! – a rising tide lifts all boats.

I don’t know if William is primarily responsible for the mountain of leaks, negative press, etc. But I totally believe jealous, petty, lazy William (and Charles’ inability to influence or control him) is at the heart of the problem that led to Harry and Meghan departing.

I also believe karma is already coming for Charles, and he knows it. Charles has a strong legacy of worthwhile causes and projects. The past aside, Camilla has also stepped up as his partner with her work on domestic violence issues, etc. Omid posted a while back, that Camilla had given a personal donation to one of the major organization involved with the Australian wildfires.

I don’t know anything much about how the Duchy is administered. But if it relies in any measure on the ideas and guidance of the lead figure, they’ll be SOL with William. He cares about nothing, has no discernible empathy, and is too lazy (and dumb) to generate useful ideas. All he truly cares about is the money, and image, and that’s it. Charles will likely see that legacy slowly disintegrating.

I still have some lingering positive feelings for Charles because of his work with the Prince’s Trust, etc. and his overall effectiveness as Prince of Wales. That may or may not last. But I see nothing to admire or care about with the rest of them, including TQ (see: Andrew).

I don’t think Camilla is the right person to represent abused women considering how she treated Diana and condoned Charles treatment of her even going as far to write to him in a letter to ignore the ridiculous creature. I don’t like her but she is set to be consort. Charles should have addressed the issues involving William and Harry ages ago. He started the issue to a degree by protecting William and throwing Harry to the wolves. William never had to publicly apologize–Charles apologized for an incident where William sped along in his car on a neighbor’s property. Harry had to apologize. William did not take the heat for taking a military copter to a stag party but his commander was called out on it. This set up a current situation where tensions were built up. Charles had a chance to step up and protect Harry and Meghan and use the same PR he used for Camilla. He did not take that chance. And it could have prevented Harry and Meghan leaving and having William snub them.

@Tessa & windyriver – All you both have stated rings so true which makes this whole mess even more incomprehensible to me. There has got to be more to this story than we know and it must be pretty bad for the lesser of two evil outcomes to be Harry & Meghan’s exit stage left from the BRF than the complete truth coming out. The Glucksburgs are protecting something big and it is not Prince Andrew.

windyriver says:

@Tessa

Re: Camilla, agree that whether she’s the right person in that role is a question. The point is, as wife of the current heir, she’s actually working, not talking about how “keen” she is to get started, someday.

Charles should have taken charge (sorry) of William a long time ago. As an adult, Will is a spoiled, entitled, unpleasant brat. A child like this would be a challenge for any parent. Presumably, hopefully, when younger there was a point at which Will might have been turned in a different direction. Charles protecting Will at Harry’s expense wasn’t going to teach him anything. But, Will’s always been surrounded by people, courtiers, other RF members, kowtowing to him as the heir. So doing anything with him would be an uphill battle. And then there’s Carole and the Middletons, probably the worst influences he could have had at that point in his life.

I believe William is a deeply unhappy, angry person who’s made little effort to understand why, since he’s been raised to think he’s superior. I think at this point, he resents Harry even more, because when he tries to compete and match Harry and Meghan with the things they do, he doesn’t get the same appreciation. On top of that, he never intended to work as much as other royals did, and expected Harry to follow suit – but Harry’s not. I’d feel sorry for Will if he didn’t have such a vicious, vindictive side to him. Instead, I feel sorry for the kids being raised by two people with values like Will and Kate.

I don’t understand why Charles did nothing to stand up for Harry and Meghan. I don’t think it’s due to his own jealousy: my guess is it’s either 1) not wanting to cross Will, who’s the heir, so putting the monarchy first; or 2) the tabloids, who might otherwise go after Camilla – or else have some additional dirt on him.

@BTB, just saw your comment after I posted this. I really wonder what’s going on behind the scenes. What a family.

@ArtHistorian – I was making fun of Philip whose name was Glucksburg before he legally changed it to Mountbatten when he became a UK citizen in order to marry Betty of House Petty.

Prince Philip was born a Prince of Greece AND Denmark.

ArtHistorian says:
April 3, 2020 at 2:50 pm
BayTampa,

I know that Philip was born into the House of Glückburg since the Greek monarchy was established by a cadet branch of the House of Glücksburg, just like the monarchy of Norway. I just didn’t know that you were making fun, that didn’t come across in your post – and there sometimes is a lot of misinformation on gossip threads. It is hard to know what people actually know and what they’ve misunderstood.

Philip’s children are members of the House of Windsor per decree because their mother is the Queen Regnant. Because royal and aristocratic houses works patrilinially, a Queen Regnant with children creates a unique situation because her children need to be the heirs to her house and not her husband’s (if he is an aristocrat).

Holy moly how people would get upset that they were compared, the outrage!!! It was obvious Kate felt threatened. Meghan was doing a better job and outshine her every turn. She also got the man who would show tenderness and how much he loves and adores her. I think that too ruffled her sausage curls in a way that many haven’t realized.
Think of it this way: you spend your life chasing the golden ticket (wills) and he doesn’t show treat you with love and affection in public EVER. in fact you hear rumors that you weren’t even his first choice. Let’s not get into his trips and the Rose Garden scandal. Then come Meghan who sweeps Harry off his feet and shows her everything Wills has not shown Kate and he even gives up his place in the BRF. Now that’s a stinger, whether she consciously admits the final blow or not.

Cele|bitchy | The Sussexes are ‘enjoying all the time together as a family’ during lockdown
So agree, Andrew’s Nemesis. According to one of her cohorts on SUITS, Meghan responded with a note or email to Morgan due to some positive comments Morgan made publicly about Suits. The cohort (and I think it was the actor her character eventually marries in SUITS) said several of them thanked him for this. Then, when in England, Meghan agreed to have a professional/business meet up with him for that one drink in a bar the night she met Harry. She saw it as a working meeting according to cohort. I agree with other posters that she probably mentioned to Harry that she had just come from having a drink with Morgan and Harry provided her with some eye opening receipts about his history with Morgan and Meghan ghosted Morgan from then on. After all, she barely knew him and only in a business sense. I think Piers fancied her (and still does) and then when he found out it was Harry she was seeing (through some source), Morgan started salivating. I think when Meghan ghosted him, he has been ‘incandescent with rage’ ever since. Of course, the stakes are even higher for Morgan now that Harry has joined in the Levinson 2 class action lawsuit that is going back after Morgan et al regarding his phone hacking of Diana’s and Harry’s phones as well as the many others who have joined the lawsuit. If suit is successful, we’re talking millions of dollars in fines, etc from people like Murdoch and possibly jail time for Morgan. They got away with one tabloid folding, paying out hundreds of millions, and an avoidance of jail time with the promise of NOT DOING IT AGAIN under Levinson 1, but Levinson 2 is about them breaking the legal agreement and continuing to hack. ByLineInvestigations has all relevant court filings and a couple of really juicy reports on just what was hacked regarding Diana and Harry (and probably William, et al).
---
I highly doubt he misses the Windsor’s. From that prank phone the Sun did, he says him and his wife are completely separate from the rest of his family. Also, didn’t Tom Bradby say that Harry and Meghan think the Queen and Phillip are the only nice ones in the family?

Cele|bitchy | Happy belated one-year anniversary of the Rose Hanbury Rural Rival story
Did you know that we didn’t remark on the one year anniversary of Dan Wootton “outing” Rose Hanbury as the Duchess of Cambridge’s “rural rival”? That happened on March 22, 2019 aka Rural Rival Day. Wootton actually didn’t break the story, the Daily Mail did weeks earlier, only they buried the curious “rivalry” story in one small gossip column, and it was largely ignored. Incidentally, the Daily Mail online took down that original column from mid-March 2019. Curious, huh?

After The Sun published their very shady, talking-around-the-issue column, Prince William ran to Richard Kay at the Daily Mail. In a piece published on March 24th, 2019 (just two days after Wootton’s story dropped), an unnamed source who just had to be William insisted that nothing was happening between Kate and Rose and something something, it’s all some kind of evil plot cooked up by the Duchess of Sussex. That story is still up, and it’s still one of the most bizarre “denials” in the history of royal gossip. As the story unfolded over the next few days and weeks after that, we got a clearer picture of what happened: an alleged affair between William and Rose, likely when Kate was pregnant with Louis, and Kate only finding out much later. Kate probably did try to freeze out Rose from their Norfolk society too. We also learned that William and his lawyers were doing the most to shut down media outlets from writing about anything to do with Rose.

There are still so many mysteries around all of this. Who leaked the original “rural rival” story and what was the goal there? To hurt the Cambridges, or to hurt Rose? Did William, in his rush to shut down the affair gossip, end up selling his soul and lifetime access to his family to various media outlets? Did Rose and Kate “make up” to any extent? They were seen at the same church service a few months ago, and Rose attended the Trump state dinner at Buckingham Palace last year. And the biggest question: is William still trimming Rose bushes?

The Richard Kay article was one of the weirdest royal gossip pieces I’ve ever seen.

Before that, everyone was completely dismissing the original story and saying it was obviously rubbish and speculation and it was just a slow news day.

Then came the most bizarre rebuttal imaginable, obviously from William. And the silencing of stories because of his human rights (no mention of them being false). It was weird and unnecessary and only made people pay attention. It would have been gone in a few days otherwise.

February Pisces says:

I have a theory that it was Carole too. Like you said it was most likely a warning shot. I think kate felt like William was close to pulling the plug on them, so ma took a risk. No one had ever heard of rose before, but putting her name out there, meant that if William ever made her official, people would be able to refer back to this rumour and say ‘poor Kate was cheated on’, similar to how everyone was on Diana’s side all because Charles broke her heart. I don’t think they ever meant for the affair rumours to leak on twitter. But it worked for kate, cos William can’t really risk being seen with rose even privately, and rose has probably run off scared by being publically outed. The fact kate seems to have gotten everything she wanted from this rumour is too coincidental. It was a risk, because is ruins the illusion that their marriage is perfect, but that would be ruined anyway if he left her so it was worth it to kate.

February Pisces says:

@BTB what I meant was that if rose got a taste of the camilla/Meghan treatment, it would atleast stop her from ever going public with William, solving Kate’s problems by 50%.I think by being unofficially exposed, it would get them to cool things down, to save face with regards to both marriages, not that is would stop them bonking in private.

BayTampaBay says:

100% this. I don;t think Dan was particularly close to the Camrbidges before this. The Sun is considered pretty scummy, even by British tabloids standards. Daily Mail and the Telegraph is more their level. It’s only after this story that Dan started getting all the exclusives. I think this is exactly what happened, and honestly I didn’t remember that DW was one of the first to report on the rural rival story. That puts all his other “exclusives” over the last few months into perspective. I used to buy into the theory that rose leaked it as a warning shot to Kate, and honestly maybe she did through DW, but I think DW probably found out on his own (or through one of his KP connections) and now the Cambridges have to keep him happy.

I think this is likely true – I’ve read 2 stories about that theory.

1) One or more of the ‘in the know’ turnip toff set was indiscreet and blabbed to the wrong journo. A few journo’s live in that area and have contacts within that group
2) her brother was heard drunkenly bragging about in a private members only club

BayTampaBay says:

It is my understanding that the “affair” (or whatever it is) was an open secret with the Turnip Toff set for over a year, it was not Williams first round of gardening in his own backyard and David Rocksavage was not so much concerned about an “affair” as he was with William as he really does not particularly care for William (nor Andrew for that matter).

Rocksage, born 1960, is a Charles III man.

Nic919 says:
April 1, 2020 at 6:27 pm
BTB… I would agree with this assessment. The very first article was very vague and most did not read between the lines, but those in the know would understand what it meant. What sparked more speculation was the ham handed Richard Kay article which obviously came from William. Then social media got involved and straight up confirmed the affair and things got harder to shut down, especially outside of the UK.

IIRC, Wootten only became the “official unofficial” mouthpiece for KP AFTER the scoop heard round the turnip toffs’ terribly moderately wealthy and insular world fraught with intrigue, adultery, and who made the best chutney for the May garden parties. Methinks there was a quid pro quo to both silence that particular unsavory story (“gossiping about trimming the toffy rose bushes with one’s wee willy just ISN’T DONE, Dan, my good man”) and also give Wootten more access, especially to those crap stories Willileaks has been putting out. Rose can look extremely beautiful if she wants to; check out some of the pictures from her modeling days.

Rose, like Princess Anne and to some degree Camilla, has a true confident aristocratic attitude towards all this obsession with cover of Vogue camera ready looks; spend the day out on the estate doing estate work, jump in the shower, let your hair naturally air dry, thrown on a $15,000.00 Valentino dress, slap on some lipstick, go to the charity gala and take your proper place in the receiving line to greet guest. Cele|bitchy | VF: The Sussexes ‘already secured’ investment in their new non-profit
I’m genuinely worried that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are about to go completely dark, media-wise, for months. That fear goes alongside my fear that their big post-royal brand launch got seriously screwed up with the coronavirus pandemic. Perhaps we’ll never know if Harry and Meghan planned to launch their post-royal brand in April and their plans got screwed up. But at least they’re together and far away from the den of vipers in the UK. Small relief. Meanwhile, of course the vipers still want to talk about the Sussexes and their exit. So it is with Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair, who had an exclusive piece about “the new chapter.” Most of this stuff is information we already knew, but Nicholl does have some sources saying a few new things.

The Sussexes are genuinely excited: According to a source who knows them well, it’s the symbolic end of a difficult period in their lives—and the beginning of something exciting. “They are genuinely excited about the next chapter,” the source revealed. “It hasn’t been an easy time for them but they are looking forward to starting a new chapter and being the couple they want to be. They really want to make a difference on a global level and they are very ambitious about what they want to achieve.”

Their new projects: While the couple are having to put their immediate plans on hold as the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic, they intend to keep busy. Meghan is said to have a number of projects lined up, including a children’s book and a new cookbook, while Disney confirmed last week that she will lend her voice to a wildlife documentary that will air on Disney+ next month. Harry, meanwhile, is focusing on his new eco-travel venture Travalyst, a non- profit organization which will be based in the UK.
They did plan to launch their post-royal brand, but they hit pause: While the source described Harry and Meghan as “upbeat” when they left the U.K. after carrying out their final official engagement on Commonwealth Day, the couple are pressing the pause button on any new announcements given the worldwide health crisis. “Given what is happening in the world it isn’t the right time to be making any major announcements or launching an organization,” the source said. “These things will happen further down the line, but their idea for the organization is already well established and quite far down the line.” The new charitable organization will focus principally on “mental health, women and female empowerment and the environment.”

They already have funding: The charity’s headquarters will be U.S.-based but will operate globally, and Harry and Meghan have already secured a handful of wealthy investors who have agreed to support their non-profit organization.

Why they moved to LA in March: It is thought that Harry and Meghan decided to move to L.A. sooner than expected because of the travel restrictions being imposed on travel between Canada and the United States as a result of the spread of the corona virus. Sources say they decided to move to L.A. after agreeing to leave the UK last year. The couple already have a team of aides in California and will be assisted by PR firm Sunshine Sachs who were initially engaged to do communications support for the Sussex Royal Foundation and will assist Catherine St Laurent, who will have a “key role” in helping to shape the couple’s media image.

They will eventually return to Britain this year: While the couple have put their plans to return to the UK on hold because of the pandemic, a source told Vanity Fair that they do plan to return to Britain “at some point later this year to visit their charities, and of course see their friends and family.”

I do think Harry and Meghan planned to visit the UK in May or June, maybe for Beatrice’s wedding or Trooping the Colour or something. But now all of that stuff has been postponed or cancelled. So… my guess is that the next time the Sussexes return to England, it will be for a funeral or memorial (I’m not trying to be morbid, just realistic) or for Remembrance Day (in November). As for their charity, which is not being launched yet… it does not surprise me in the least that Harry and Meghan already have the money lined up and they already deep into organizing everything. I knew they were not just taking hikes and hanging out in Canada. They were putting together everything about their post-royal lives.

It was reported in January that they had already secured funding during their ‘downtime’ in late 2019. I remember reading several articles about it. Meghan is a worker bee after my own heart. She is great at long term strategizing and getting everything in place then rolling it out as a done deal. It has also been mentioned before that she was working on a children’s book to support her royal animal shelter patronage and that she was considering a second cookbook. As usual, Nicholl just rolls out what has already been rolled out by more reliable sources. I don’t think Nicoll has an original sentence in her repertoire.

Cele|bitchy | Prince William is ‘seriously considering’ a return to air-ambulance piloting, lmao
I’ve been shocked by the lack of media coverage over one vital issue: why hasn’t Prince William made a plan to visit his father in Scotland? The British press has been fretting and hand-wringing about how nasty, selfish, arrogant and “Hollywood” Harry has been because Harry has not abandoned his wife and child to return to the UK to personally visit Charles and “help” ease the burden of the Willileaks Regency. But… William is already in the UK? Why has no one asked why he isn’t visiting his grandmother or his father? Is it because there’s one set of unhinged expectations for Harry, and one completely different set of expectations for William?

In any case, I actually think William is doing what’s appropriate – he and Kate took the kids to Norfolk and they’re isolating and social distancing for the time being, and they’ll likely be doing that for a few months. Of course, that’s given William and Kate time to work on their embiggening campaign and their regency plans. It’s also given William time to – wait for it!!! – think about how he would like to return to the air ambulance job. You know, the one where he could only qualify to be a co-pilot and he barely worked part-time and he only did it because he hated working for the Firm and he wanted some middle-class cosplay? That air ambulance job.
..
Basically, William wants keen credit for “seriously considering” a return to being an ambulance pilot, but really he just wants to remind everyone that we’re just a few coughs away from King William, the most important and most work-shy king in the world. Of course he’s not going to return to co-piloting. He barely co-piloted when that was his actual job. Real question: why can’t William just hole up in Norfolk for a few months without all of this embiggening fuss? If the pandemic wasn’t happening, he would be doing the same thing – f–king off to Norfolk and not working. Is he just a contrarian?

I remember Diana once saying that if anything happened, she knew Harry would be fine but she was more worried about William. How right she was. William has no direction or ambition, which is made worse by how utterly lazy he is. Laughable. Meanwhile Harry and Meghan are happy living their lives with their adorable son and if it chafes at William, good.

Nope. He was never allowed to be a pilot for the EAAA. A special helicopter for a co-pilot, which they did not need before, was purchased because William could not fly solo as a pilot. He was never qualified as a pilot because he never got the full hours. He almost got booted from the RAF for flying so little as well, but that was buried quickly and Willy moved on to his new co-pilot job in east Anglia.

Harry didn’t “resign” from the military, he was outed by an Australian reporter and had to leave as he was now a known target for killing by the Taliban. He was awarded the prize for best co-pilot gunner during training and became a fully operational Apache pilot in 2012. Being a co-pilot and gunner of an Apache helicopter is no mean feat – especially on the front lines in a war situation. I don’t know why you’re denigrating Harry’s military flying experience – his skills and achievements far outweigh those of his brother.

He was only ever a copilot with the EAAA which is what people were mocking. Besides William never actually served and got the special royal type of promotions. His military service is a joke as much as his copilot job. He almost got kicked out of the RAF for his shenanigans.

If you are in the military and truly serving, you go to active battlefields, if you don’t you didn’t serve. Phillip, Andrew and Harry actually served (Andrew barely did though) Charles and William got the bs royal version of it.

Cele|bitchy | Prince Harry & Meghan won’t use their Sussex Royal IG or site from here on out
I thought that there would be a big announcement today on the SussexRoyal Instagram about their transition away from the “Sussex Royal” branding and their new post-Windsor vibe. But they ended up posting their final – ?? – SR Instagram on Monday, their penultimate day of being “in the royal fold.” Their new spokesperson also confirmed lots of information. Here are the big pieces of news (via People):

No more SussexRoyal Instagram? I thought that on April 1, the Sussexes would simply change the name on their current Instagram profile and somehow be able to retain everything they’ve built on that page. But it looks like they will likely open up a completely new Instagram account at some point in the future. They will also no longer be active on their sussexroyal.com site. This had to be one of the things that Petty Prince William demanded in the Sussexit negotiations – I can’t see Prince Charles or the Queen really caring if they simply transitioned their existing website and IG into something new. William must have thrown a tantrum and he was probably gleeful at the thought of the Sussexes having to build their social media profile from the ground up. I think they’ll have KensingtonRoyal IG’s bot-inflated numbers beat by the end of the year, honestly.

The Sussexes are going away for a few months? Meghan and Harry “will spend the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organisation.” They have no plans to launch their new thing or new brand right away.

No more Sussex Royal Foundation. That foundation is “winding down” or something, and Harry will turn Travalyst into a non-profit and the Sussexes will now build a new non-profit from the ground up too.

They hired someone new for their charity. Catherine St. Laurent will start her role as both chief of staff and executive director of their new non-profit organization in the beginning of April, says the spokesperson.

They have new media representation. Going forward, Buckingham Palace will no longer comment on enquiries related to Prince Harry and Meghan. In addition, “no other royal communications representatives act on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including palace spokespeople, Household representatives nor royal sources,” according to today’s statement. The couple’s communications will be managed for the time being by U.S. agency Sunshine Sachs, who were initially engaged to do communications support for Sussex Royal Foundation, in addition to James Holt in the U.K.
Security. As they’ve said repeatedly, they will not be discussing their security or security costs. The Daily Mail is making a big deal about how Prince Charles is reportedly paying “half” of their annual security bill now. I would bet that Charles is actually picking up the whole bill, at least for the first year or two.

I’m also including their final Instagram below, with their final message. I tend to believe that Meghan and Harry had every intention for a splashy April rollout of their new un-royal brand, but the coronavirus quarantine has changed things. I hope they launch their Harry & Meghan Instagram in a few weeks with a new photo of Archie. Instant 5 million followers, right?

They also finally turned off the comments for most (all?) of their IG posts, which made me sad because it just confirmed that hey’re fully aware of the vitriol in some of the comments.

I think things were really bad behind the scenes with the family. Their spokesperson made a comment (or it was in their statement) that they would no longer use any royal communications – no comms, no “palace insider” and no “royal source” would be speaking for them.

It makes sense for them to take a few months away. It’s not like they have any events coming up. Everything is on pause. It wouldn’t be right to have a big roll out of their future with the Coronavirus. I will miss them but they will come back with a bang.

I don’t think they will launch their new Instagram for a while. Even posting a new photo of Archie would cause a lot of hate from the RR. It’s best to lay low for a while.

Agree Marie — let the remaining royals royal. After all they don’t need the Sussexes so it’s time the senior royals shut up and show up! I also think they are going to hold onto those accounts because if they shut them down someone else could start posting as SussexRoyal. I’m sure William would happily fund a porn company to take over those account names if he could. (Anything to smear them, right.) Very smart Sussex move to leave them up, but inactive and launch something fresh.

I’m so relieved for them. They’re finally out!

I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll do next, but I think the pandemic gives them a very good reason to pause, take a breath and enjoy some peace for a little while as a family. They’ve been hounded relentlessly for over 3 years, some quiet while the press is distracted will be healthy for them.

I think the royal family will come to regret driving them out. Maybe they already do. Some of the blinkered members (mentioning no names…) will continue to blame them and never seen their own role in making them leave, but I think one or two might be more introspective. Charles, maybe.

The security argument has been so dumb and probably actually increases their need for security! Which the press knew and gleefully encouraged. I’ve said before I think there were some involved hoping for a death and I’m not taking it back.

I agree with you Belli —- When the RR and perhaps certain members of Harry’s family were unsuccessful in driving a wedge between Harry and Meghan, I think they all doubled down with extreme and increasingly nasty pressure hoping they might just get a bonanza of articles and media coverage out of covering a funeral instead. Yeah, the more sensible ones will realise that the organisation as a whole is poorer for having lost them.

Having said that some of the more fame and attention hungry ones like the Cambridges and the thirsty owl, Sophie of Wessex, will see this as a chance to finally raise their profiles in the vacuum the Sussexes exit has created.

Yes, I think it means they are completely independent and off the royal radar. However I’m not confident that William and his crew won’t still be trying to harm the Sussexes with made up crap or leaks coming from is office. What the Sussexes have done though, is made it clear that if we do hear “palace sources” then we know that’s a lie and (I would hope) newspapers would be less likely to publish it as the Sussexes are on record saying only we speak for us. Cele|bitchy | Duchess Kate removed her sapphire ring & eternity band during ‘isolation’
Her decision to remove her jewelry is likely to aid in the effectiveness of handwashing, which is essential in stopping the spread of the virus.

While Kate, 38, wore her Welsh gold wedding band, she was missing her iconic engagement ring, which once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. She also opted to not wear her white gold diamond eternity band.

A 2018 study at Georgia State University found that rings provided “a protected area [on the skin] in which bacteria can flourish,” according to researchers. They also found that those who didn’t wear rings were able to kill more bacteria when washing their hands than those who wore rings.

[From People]

LMAO @ “diligently working from home.” William and Kate can really do the bare minimum and they’re considered “diligent,” meanwhile Meghan worked her ass off in a short time and she was smeared and abused. Anyway. As for the ring thing… I know a lot of women would never remove their wedding rings for anything, but some women do. Kate usually removes Big Blue when she’s visiting hospitals or any kind of medical facility, so… why didn’t she remove it for the visit to the emergency call center? And then she removed it for the posed photo at her desk in KP? I bet she’s keeping it off during the quarantine too.

Sure it’s a beautiful ring, but these people are so rich they could have designed their own beautiful ring and started their marriage with something new. That ring is the symbol of a disastrous marriage so I agree it’s weird to give that to someone you supposedly care about. And even Diana didn’t really like it, she just picked the gaudiest ring from the catalogue. Kate wears it so much like we will confuse her for Diana or something. I thought when she wore it to sail on the regatta it was beyond ridiculous because you are handing rope and that could catch in it and rip your finger off. So I guess a pandemic is what it takes for her not to wear it all the time?

Chrissy says:

Cain chose that ring because it was a available and FREE. He finagled it off of Harry and so, because he’s cheap, he gave her a ring both Kate and CAROLE (the Diana obsessive) would appreciate. Not much thought went into it, I’m sure.

Cele|bitchy | The Cambridges are ‘working flat-out’ while other royals are ‘nowhere to be seen’
On March 19th, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did a photo-op at an emergency call center in London, where they met frontline healthcare workers in the middle of a pandemic. William and Kate stood too close to the workers (no social distancing) and William made jokes about how they’re all going to be watching too much television, because he cannot envision what it’s actually like for frontline healthcare workers in a pandemic. This has been part of William and Kate’s new pandemic energy, where William is getting embiggened as a “statesman” and Kate… is keen about statesmen, or something. Anyway, as we can now see, that photo-op at the emergency call center wasn’t the only thing they did two Fridays ago – they also posed for keen photos at their desks in Apartment 1 of Kensington Palace.

People are making a big deal about how Kate, a right-handed person, is holding the pen in her left hand. But… I’m a rightie and I usually hold the phone in my right hand too. While it doesn’t feel natural to even pick up a pen with my left hand, it’s possible Kate is A) ambidextrous to some degree or B) simply fidgeting with a pen while she keenly poses for a photo. As for the point of these photos – which were (again!) taken two Fridays ago, as we can see from Kate wearing the same Marks and Spencer suit she wore to the call center – the point is that Kate and William are still “working” because they also made some calls to their patronages. Two Fridays ago. And they want credit for it now.
---
the funny thing about this whole set up was that Kensington actually pushed it too far this time. Regular DM commenters alike found this whole shoot and article super insanely tone deaf like “thank gosh I can sleep @ nite knowing her 3 blessed angels r running around the hallowed grounds of anmer as I sit in my housing commission flat …. also her desk is very clean and has books on it is she sure how to use it?!”

If your regular rabid supporters think you’re a bunch privileged idiots (no easy feat these days for W&K) then the KP comms team officially has socks for brains.

It is rather amazing just how bad they and their team are at this. If they are staging photos of them at “work”, at least make it look like they are in an actual, lived in working space. The Kate pic is especially bad, they put novels on her desk! Why? because they look pretty and fit the aesthetic of the room? Or because they wanted to signal traditional “Englishness” with major works from the English literary canon?

Reply
ArtHistorian says:
March 30, 2020 at 1:44 pm
Having studied the photos more closely, I do note some important differences. They have clearly tried with William’s pic. They’ve dragged in a big printer in the foreground to signal “working space” and they’ve taken a shot that looks “candid”. It is clear that this pic is to communicate that William is just sooo busy. However, the cabinet that the printer is placed on (+ the messy cables) clashes with the rest of the very carefully balanced decor, which makes me think that this printer is not a regular feature in this space but has quickly been dragged in to make it seem like William actually has a personal work office (which I frankly think that he doesn’t).

Kate’s pic, on the other hand, is just plain ridiculous! So painstakingly posed and there’s only been a perfunctory effort to even try to make this look just a little bit like an office space. Just a phone and an inbox with blank papers (!). The novels on the desk is just a baffling addition – no working space in actual daily use has novels cluttering up the desk. I wonder whether this pic is simply Kate wanting everything and herself to look nice – or her team is just plain trolling her, deliberately making her look like a light-weight next to her “serious” husband. I wonder…

These pics send different messages: William’s pic is trying to send “serious, working vibes” while Kate’s says “stock-photo of business woman at work”. Kate’s pic is so obviously and painfully studied that it reeks of fakery. With William’s photo they’ve actually tried to create an air of “unstudied authenticity” trhough the staging of the space, his pose and framing of the shot itself. So my question is this: Is Kate simply that vain and that clueless? Or is she being set up to be the frivolous foil to William’s “serious working statesman”? Inquiring minds want to know.

They clearly have a stash of ‘goodwill’ photo’s that they are releasing at opportune moments but they have no clue when the opportune moment is – these photo’s have Carole and Williams ham fisted PR stunting written all over them. The tricks that they’ve used for years are not working at some point when the pubic tide turns on them so will the tabloids – they WILL drop whatever they have on the Cambridges and the Middleton’s. Whatever deal they made with the tabloids will get chucked out the window when the public turns on them all.

They should have asked for Carole’s help here. At least Carole would know what a work desk looks like.
I certainly think Kate is very dim, her own words confirm this, but it seems her team is also quite dumb too because this set up is fake as hell.

Lol… it’s interesting that the Kate pic looks obviously posed while the Willy pic looks like he’s caught by surprise. I wonder if that’s intentional? So it can look like Kate doesn’t actually work but Willy does? I’m convinced that Workshy Billy Boy is gonna trade Kate in at some point for a more dynamic model that will make him look better. Could he be laying little groundwork bits to make Kate look like the villain?

Cele|bitchy | Daily Mail: Duchess Meghan ‘got what she wanted’ but Harry ‘burnt every bridge’
Rebecca “Becky” English at the Daily Mail had a big, exclusive story in the Daily Mail this weekend, because that’s what happens whenever the Duke and Duchess of Sussex make any kind of move at this point, even if we’ve known for months that the “move” was going to happen. We all knew that Harry and Meghan would eventually move to LA. Sources had been saying it for months now, especially People Mag’s sources, all of whom insisted that Meghan, Harry and Archie were going to spend the summer in LA. Well, it happened.

Instead of acknowledging the fact that they had egg on their faces from misreporting the “Canadian lockdown” stuff, the royal reporters have just gone full-throttle on how Harry and Meghan are terrible people for… like, rejecting Canada? Two weeks ago, the Brits were smearing Canada because the Sussexes weren’t in Britain, now suddenly it’s some huge insult to Liz of House Petty that the Sussexes have decamped to LA. Anyway, Becky English has one of the nastiest stories about all of this. This is how she opened the story:

They’ve opted for a new life in La La Land – it’s what they wanted and planned. But how long will it be before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – especially the duke – begin to experience niggling regrets?

As one royal insider – previously a great admirer – said to me recently: ‘Harry has given up everything, literally everything. He has burnt every single bridge back at home. And Meghan? Well I rather think she’s got what she wanted…’

How fair this waspish conclusion is, remains to be seen. And they’re not hanging about. As I revealed in January California was always the plan. The move hasn’t surprised the Royal household, but many feel it appears disrespectful to the Canadian people.
...
Anyway, Beckys are gonna Becky and I don’t buy most of the information in her article. I don’t even think the article was strictly a Team Cambridge-PR piece, honestly, although William’s fingerprints are definitely on many of those unnamed-source quotes. I think the Sussexes setting up shop in LA is absolutely driving the entire royal establishment bonkers. I imagine the Men In Grey have never had their panties in this big of a twist. More hit pieces are on the way. And yes, they’ll find another way to strategically use the word “niggling.”
---
thought Meghan plotted for decades to be a princess because she was once photographed in front of that place that no tourist had ever visited, Buckingham Palace.

And now she never wanted to be royal?

Can these people make up their minds about what they imagine Meghan “wants”?

(Obviously no, because they need their story to be able to change direction at a split second’s notice, no matter if it’s the opposite of what they claimed yesterday.)

They’ve got the wrong Duchess – there is ONLY one recently married in Duchess that schemed for over a decade to get what she wanted.

They are projecting much.

That is the funny part. Only one Duchess dedicated her life to catching a prince while not working or doing anything of value at all. Only one Duchess still can’t give a proper speech a decade into the position.

“Harry has given up everything, literally everything.” This line annoys me so much. First of all, let’s not act like Harry didn’t leave for him too. Mans been itching to leave before Meghan and Archie and they were the perfect reason to finally go. Second of all, Meghan had to leave A LOT behind for Harry and now he’s doing the same.

Anyway, what happened to “a door has been left open” and all those stories from a month ago??

Cele|bitchy | Prince Harry told people he was ‘devastated’ to step down from the Royal Marines
When all was said and done, I think one of the nastiest moves by Queen Elizabeth was to strip Prince Harry of his military titles and patronages as part of the Sussexit negotiations. It was especially notable considering that Prince Andrew didn’t have to give up any of his military titles when he stepped down from royal duties after his mind-blowingly offensive BBC interview. HRH Prince Andrew is still an HRH and he still holds the rank of vice admiral in the Royal Navy. Prince Harry served two tours of duty in the Afghan war. He’s legitimately a veteran. And he was stripped of his military titles and patronages because… he was tired of his wife being smeared and racially abused. That will always be one of the most terrible things Liz of House Petty ever did. And now it’s time for the British press to continue to gloat about how Harry got punished and how devastated he was about it:
---
Becks1 says:
March 30, 2020 at 10:28 am
I do think that was one of the pettiest moves on Liz’s part, and I’m sure Harry was really upset at that. But it probably cemented his decision to leave – you’re going to do what? you’re going to treat me how? Okay, bye.

ArtHistorian says:

Especially since his uncle still gets to keep his honorary military titles. The same uncle, who had to step back from royal work, because of allegations of him being a sexual predator (allegations that he pretty much confirmed unwittingly on TV by being an exceptionally bad liar).

Andrew is the worst scandal of the BRF but he gets to keep all his honors (and he has Mummy’s full support). While Harry simply wanted out of the Royal Rota because he didn’t want to constantly interact with the very same people who smear his wife. He didn’t want totally out (as per their original statement), he just wanted to create a less toxic work environment for himself and his wife. He was told no, and stripped of his honorary ranks and had to agree not to use his HRH. The difference is galling and it cast such a poor light on the BRF for anybody who isn’t blinded by manufactured outrage.

JA Lowcountry Lady says:

Totally agree Becks1 and ArtHistorian —— Harry is perfectly aware of what went down with the Firm and he stated it in his Sentabale speech the night before he left in January. His words, his voice, knowing that it would be heard unfiltered. I’m sure he’s sad in many ways, just as I’m sure Meghan is sad. Neither of them chose the complete exit — that was the Firm’s decision along with the near scorched earth choices towards the Sussexes. But, one can be sad and still keep moving forward knowing the choice is the right one. And I think this one year review is a joke. I think the ‘review’ is being pushed from the Queen and Charles and the Sussexes are like, ‘fine’, we’ll be back when hell freezes over but if you need to state there’s a one year review what do we care. I doubt if either of the Sussexes plan at this stage to attend.

I’m fascinated by this idea that Queen Elizabeth might have really had the angle to get Harry to leave his wife and child? Then again if I look to real life… I believe my MIL has at various times tried to smear me and break up my marriage to her son… so I guess my struggle is to understand that kind of crazy, controlled delusion exists in the British royal family. Actually, now that I’ve made this comparison it seems completely logical. SMDH

Yeah, dysfunctional families usually see outsiders as a threat and try to turn them into the “villain” or the “problem” when really the problem is the pre-existing dysfunction. In functional families, the adults function to support the next generation. In dysfunctional families, the children are recruited to meet the needs of the adults. There is usually some over-arching chaotic, unstoppable force at play in dysfunctional families that everyone acts in accordance with but no one verbally acknowledges. In some cases it is abuse or addiction. In this case it’s greed and fear. Anyone who doesn’t play along gets punished and/or outright ostracized.

ArtHistorian says:

The BRF is a study in generational family dysfunction, embedded in a rigid hierarchy of rank – and I think that this rigid hierarchy is a major reason for a lot of the dysfunction. It is like these people are unable to relate to each other as family and human beings outside of their various ranks. IMO it is very telling that they have this elaborate system of who has to curtsy to whom, even in private! In other RFs, the members only bow/curtsy to the monarch in public. This kind of pulling rank between family members in private is guaranteed to cause a lot of resentment. Either when someone lord their higher rank over a close family member or someone gets privileges despite being lower in rank (Andrew).

The security also sets a precedent for Charlotte and louis.
To this day, icant understand how these courtiers and chuck thought it was a good idea not to side with harry!! The court cases will seal the nail in their coffin+expose their collusion with the press to bully Meghan.

Agree with this part. I think as an American, it made more sense to just go home, where there is a support network. Living on a resort island was not sustainable and that “ multimillion luxury mansion” was temporary and not theirs, Also, what is their immigration status in Canada? I’m sure they were working with the US consulate there to get a visa for Harry Besides, they’ll be stuck in the house regardless. It seems the biggest fear of the UK tabloids and Royals is not necessarily where the Sussexes live, but their visibility and voice.

Assuming neither are permanent residents of Canada, both Harry and Meghan can only stay in Canada for up to 6 months without a visa. I’m guessing that when Meghan was working on Suits she had a work visa that allowed her to stay there (she should have just applied for permanent residency then). I saw some discussion that they were almost up their 6 month time frame to stay in Canada, so they probably had to leave before the borders closed indefinitely or their residency in Canada would be questioned. Plus no one is sure how long the borders are going to be closed, so I’m guessing this is just to avoid any issues they might have with the CBSA or immigration. While I don’t think the government would force them out during the pandemic, they may have done so just to be safe. However, I do wonder if they were thinking of becoming immigrants in Canada in the first place?

Cele|bitchy | The Cambridges must ‘boost morale’ during the pandemic, says royal commentator
Do take a moment to consider the fact that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got exactly what they wanted. They forced the more popular and charismatic Sussexes into exile. They’ve got even more eyes on them and more responsibility during a global health crisis in which William’s father is infected with a deadly virus. And they have unlimited funds and little oversight to spread whatever narrative they want now. The problem is, I feel like they made a deal with the devil to get all these things: the British media seems to be keeping them on a short leash, and you never know when the press might give a big old yank to that leash. With the British people under strict orders to stay home and not cause any drama, the press needs something to write about. Bashing the Sussexes is always popular, of course, but there will be a need for new photos, new storylines, new dramas. So yank-yank-yank on that leash. Apparently, William and Kate have a responsibility to be out there, doing things during the crisis:

Prince William and Kate Middleton have a ‘considerable responsibility’ to boost morale among the British people during the coronavirus crisis, a royal expert has claimed. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said a ‘very considerable responsibility rests on the Cambridges at this difficult time. He told Express.co.uk: ‘Their movements are obviously followed avidly by the press and social media and they are certain to rise to the challenge of boosting morale, whilst complying with the behaviour recommended by the Government.’
...
The message, to me, reads as “give us fresh content or else.” And it’s true – with the Queen looking increasingly out-of-touch and tone-deaf and with Charles sidelined, it really IS the Cambridges’ responsibility to remind people of… why royalty exists, and what function royalty has, and whether they’re really public servants in any sense. The problem is, William and Kate don’t like having “responsibilities.” When faced with duty, Kate heads to her mom’s house and William heads off to trim rose bushes or f–k around in Kenya. We’ll see how this plays out. It should be exciting.

Personally I’ve been waiting for the first few months following March 31st to see how the wind blows. I think these next few months will be even more telling now, with COVID-19 bringing the world to a standstill and the royal rota getting antsy for new stories and content. Until yesterday, they were whining about having nothing to talk about. It really depends on how much info W&K and their lackeys can get about the Sussexes to leak. They’ve been low on content since the split last year. While they’ve occasionally been able to satisfy the British media with big leaks like Sussexit, eventually whatever info they glean won’t be enough. I think last December was an interesting time for W&K’s image in the press; they weren’t outright attacked, but there were some articles following the Great Shrug-Off that didn’t exactly paint their marriage in the most loving way. We might see more of that passive-aggressive attitude from the press in the upcoming months.

Cele|bitchy | It’s so weird how Dan Wootton at The Sun got another exclusive on the Sussexes
Anyway, after I read the People exclusive, I thought “it’s interesting that Dan Wootton did break the news, weird.” Turns out, People probably got the exclusive from the Sussexes because the Sussexes knew that Wootton would be going to press on his story soon. Think of the timeline – the Sussexes quietly move to LA and don’t inform the viper courtiers in London. Then Charles tests positive for the virus this week and he has to get in touch with Harry. Through phone conversations with his father, William puts together the fact that Harry and Meghan are not in Canada. Willileaks and Poor Jason Knauf then call up their favorite journo, Dan Wootton at the Sun. And behold, the Cambridge-approved version of the “Harry & meg moved to LA” story:
...
As for the “they should have stayed in a Commonwealth country” argument – Liz of House Petty stripped them of their HRHs and military titles and told them to go away, they were unneeded and unwanted. The Windsors don’t get to turn around and dictate where they live. They all thought she was a gauche American and they wanted to send her back to America. Well, that’s what happened. They didn’t count on Harry joining her though.

SomeChick says:

“They have a big support network there. It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based. Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria.”

That is a bish azz thing to say!

Oh yes, their business associates (make sure to mention “Hollywood agents and PRs”). Like that is the most important reason – and can’t be done from anywhere. Mentioning Doria last is so transparent. She’s Archie’s grandma, too. Why wouldn’t they want to be close by?

Give it up, Wootton. No one is buying what you’re pitching. Now, an update on what Rose (Who?) Hanbury has been up to lately would be a fascinating read.

I think it’s pretty much indisputable now that William’s office is the source of the leaks, and that he has condoned all of it. Too many stories track back to him. Which really puts the whole mess into a new perspective. No amount of money or privilege can save you from basic insecurity and lack of self-awareness. Or self-centred pettiness. We would be lucky to see William only accend the throne, well into his midlife. But at the moment, the only thing keeping him from the actual throne / the Duchy of Lancaster/Cornwall, is the state of the lungs of one 70-something year old and one 94 year old.

Cele|bitchy | Duchess Meghan has predictably banned Harry from visiting his sick father, oh no!
Did you know that the Duchess of Sussex is responsible for Prince Charles catching the coronavirus? Did you know that she laughed like an American all the way back to Canada, knowing she had left a coronatrap for the senior royals? Did you know that the Duchess is currently flat-out REFUSING to allow poor Harry to speak to his father? Did you also know that Duchess Villainess has banned dishrag Harry from ever seeing his poor coronapapa ever again? It’s all true, and you’ve just gotten a glimpse of the story pitches at the Daily Mail this week. Here’s the first of what I imagine will be dozens of stories about how Prince Charles’ coronavirus infection is all Meghan’s fault or something.

Honestly, the press acts like an abusive boyfriend or husband. ‘You’re worthless, foolish, never do anything right’ and then when you dare to leave, they make your life hell for leaving and trying to live without them. They did the EXACT same thing to Diana. I was 10 when she died, and in the year leading up to her death I *distinctly* remember the constant vicious headlines and stalking. Then when she died, I also remember thinking, how are they going to cover this after treating her so horribly. There was no acknowledgement of the vile way they treated her in the days and weeks after her death- just a bunch of glowing articles, as if they’d had no role in the harassment and the way she met her end.

Palace staff have said this for ages and I can see how that’s developed into the current mess the royal family is in. Charles is obsessed with his image (especially since the War of the Waleses + Diana’s death did a number on his reputation) and Betty is infamous for sticking her head in the sand on family matters. Between these two idiots and the future-future idiot’s temper tantrums, I can see how an “appease William at all costs” approach became the favored one after Diana died. William’s advantage over Charles is that he’s Diana’s son, and specifically Diana’s “golden boy” in comparison to the “dumb Harry” narrative. He’s going to be favored and protected as long as he’s able to keep his skeletons in the closet.

Charles will have no compunction about releasing those skeletons if they get too close to his crown.

You will find that Harry is more popular than William.
Then Meghan came along and the green monster raised hell to get Harry out of the way.
Not a very confident man although he is the second heir. He want the glory without working for it.

This is such a bad article and just factually inaccurate in so many ways. The writer locked all her social media accounts real quick. There was a epic drag on Twitter from someone who went to journalism school with her at Univ. of Missouri. Basically saying that everyone who knew her from back then is not surprised she now prints lies for a living…ouch. I’m stuck at home with kids and just laid off, so while I generally ignore these stupid stories, have been dragging these fools on Twitter mostly with GIFs. Not in the mood for their lying BS.

Cele|bitchy | Why did Prince Charles travel to Scotland on Sunday if he was already feeling sick?!
On one side, I feel genuine sympathy for Prince Charles, as I feel genuine sympathy for every person who tests positive for coronavirus. It sucks and I hope everyone is taking it easy and making good choices for their own health and the health of others in their community. But therein lies the rub! Apparently, everything about Charles’ coronavirus diagnosis is quite controversial. For one, he and the other senior royals were keeping up public schedules long past the point where they should have been taking bigger precautions and self-isolating. Two, Charles traveled to one of his many homes – this one in Scotland – to self-isolate, and Scotland is MAD about it and it’s all about a larger problem of the strain on rural hospitals and doctors in the UK. Three, there’s an issue about how Charles and Camilla were both tested very quickly, and whether they “jumped the queue,” testing-wise. Oh, and then there’s the issue of how many people Charles exposed while he was contagious.

[Charles’] diagnosis has newspapers and tabloids tracking Charles’ movements in the 15 days after he saw Prince Albert of Monaco at a lunch on March 10—before Monaco’s head-of-state tested positive for the coronavirus. One of the immediate aims was figuring out whether or not Queen Elizabeth was exposed. Charles last saw his 93-year-old mother on March 12, and the two reportedly hugged sometime before he went to a fundraising dinner. After that dinner, he didn’t attend any public engagements, though he did take private meetings over the next week. A palace source told the Daily Mail that the queen’s doctors think he likely wouldn’t have been contagious at that time.

According to a report in the Times, March 13 is also the day that Charles and Camilla moved from their London apartments in Clarence House to their country home in Gloucestershire, Highgrove. The couple remained at Highgrove for more than a week, where Charles continued to work, communicating with his staff digitally. The newspaper reports that Charles began to feel symptoms related to the coronavirus before he flew from Highgrove to Birkhall on Sunday. “His symptoms were not sufficiently pronounced to reconsider plans to travel. All actions were taken in conjunction with medical advice,” a source told the Times. The report doesn’t include whether or not he flew commercial or privately and what precautions were taken to limit exposure.

This timing of this trip has become an issue for a few Members of Scottish Parliament, who noted that the British government released guidance against traveling to second homes on the same day Charles would have made the trek to Birkhall. “Second-homers and tourists were being urged not to travel to rural areas, including the Highlands, as it simply spread the virus,” Joan McAlpine, a member of the Scottish Nationalist Party, told the Times. “Presumably Charles thought those rules did not apply to him.”

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sent her best to the prince in his recovery, but noted the seriousness of the travel guidelines.“We want people to behave responsibly, we don’t want people to see the Highlands and islands of our country as places where they can outrun the virus,” she said in a press conference. “Obviously there are places where people have homes in Scotland and people will choose to go to their homes, but we should all be responsible.”

Now Charles is self-isolating in Birkhall, using separate rooms from Camilla, who tested negative for the virus. A number of the couple’s employees are also self-isolating in their own homes. According to the Times, Charles’ doctors have said that his case is unlikely to escalate beyond mild symptoms, and he is not bedridden.

[From Vanity Fair]

Yes, it’s incredibly shady that Charles was feeling some virus symptoms while in Gloucestershire and then he traveled to Scotland anyway and got tested there! WTF. Has anyone explained why Charles thought it necessary to move from Highgrove to Birkhall this past weekend? At that point, most people were already saying “stay where you are, don’t travel.” And Charles was like “that doesn’t apply to me.”

As for the testing… some NHS staffers wondered why Charles was able to “jump the queue” to get tested so quickly, especially since his symptoms were (by the official description) so mild. Health Minister Edward Argar issued a statement saying: “My understanding is that his symptoms, his condition, met that criteria. The Prince of Wales didn’t jump the queue.” I think… that’s probably right? Even if Charles’ symptoms were mild, he’s a man over the age of 70. That’s a factor too. And yes, of course he’s the heir to the throne and I imagine that was also a factor. Still, it’s a bad look when Scottish NHS first responders don’t have such easy access to testing.

Cele|bitchy | This photo of Queen Elizabeth & Boris Johnson talking on the phone is bonkers
Hear me out: what if all the Duchess of Sussex-bashing was merely one massive deflection away from the fact that Queen Elizabeth is no longer seen as the noble, stable, hard-working sovereign? QEII has taken some massive PR hits over the past few years especially. From where I sit, the dichotomy of how Elizabeth handled the Andrew situation versus how she handled the Sussex situation is both remarkable and catastrophic. She did permanent damage to the crown, in my mind. And now the entire world in the middle of a pandemic. This is the moment where people are crying out for stable, even-handed leadership. And what they’re getting is local politicians (mayors, governors) across Europe and America taking the reins while the national leaders (Trump, Boris Johnson, QEII) are sitting on their hands and/or making things worse.
...
Difficult times and they are probably damned if they do, damned if they don’t but the UK Royal Family is very quiet.

Yeah. I’ve been saying that for two weeks? The Windsors have really screwed up their response to the pandemic. Considering all the public and private events they were still doing just one week ago, it definitely feels like they were sending some terrible messages at every level.

Fascinating angle on Sussex departure — that they saw the RF couldn’t go on for much longer. In hindsight, makes so much sense.

That sums it up nicely. So many ideas come to mind on how they could be helping.

William and Kate could be joining podcasts or releasing video chats on mental health, thanking first responders (William), homeschooling kids right now (Kate), or just getting football stars and celebrities to share the message to stay home, save lives.

The Queen should already have released a few televised speeches to rally everyone.

Prince Charles (before being sick) could have done a fireside chat type virtual interview and written an editorial in the times or somewhere on joining together to fight the war on the virus.

Question – if the monarchy is abolished, will the government step in and begin turning most of the castles/royal homes into museums, and categorize and take back all of the art and jewels that belong to the crown? I would love to see that happen for you folks, I am just wondering how much art/jewelry/land would suddenly become private and not part of the crown through shady inventory…

The upside is that they they could be the socialites that they want to act like, and do a charity gala once a year to pretend to be relevant.

The question of what property would belong to the royals and what would belong to the State is very likely a murky mess. Somethings are strictly outlined but I bet a lot is not. That is probably one of the reasons why there isn’t much enthusiasm for abolishing the monarchy among those that could make it happen. It would take a lot of work and it would be expensive to untangle everything.

Cele|bitchy | Prince Charles has tested positive for the coronavirus, he’s in isolation in Scotland
This crisis also shows that royals are absolutely non-essential, rather they are a parasitic growth on the social body. I’ll not deny that the monarchies have played an important part in terms of national identity – that has been demonstrated in historical research. However, they can’t just remain comfortably ensconced in the status quo as the British Royal Family has been in post-war society. They constantly need to reinvent themselves. Many of them did so during WWII and that saved the Danish monarchy for sure – a deeply unpopular king managed to turn himself into a national symbol. The BRF did the same to a certain degree – but this script is useless in a pandemic and the BRF has shown itself to be unable to change so far. Will and Kate’s visit to health care workers showed this (even though they have a sycophantic press propping them up at the moment). It was a stupid decision that went against the public guidelines and the fact that they haven’t been good at using the ways that modern technologies can be used productively during such a crisis shows how unprepared and unimaginative they are. That and the fact that they are lazy and self-involved.

This inability is very much due to Elizabeth II (and probably due to the machinery of her court as well). She has repeatedly shown that she has terrible instincts when it comes to reading the public mood. She is simply too insulated, unimaginative and incurious to lead the British monarchy through a new re-invention and the same goes for William – he too is unimaginative as well as too lazy. It is here that Harry and Meghan could have been such assets. Not just because of their combined star power but also because of Meghan providing a new perspective. This is what Ingrid did in Denmark. She might have been born royalty but she was an ambitious woman. She always wanted to be Queen since that was the only real career path available to a princess in the 30s. She was very good at it and she had a natural flair for PR. She had a huge role in saving the Danish monarchy, IMO, since she could gently influence the king, her father-in-law, like no other person in the family. Her father-in-law, Christian X was a rigid and hidebound man who almost got the monarchy abolished when he interfered in politics in 1920. While he did salvage some popularity with his symbolic actions in relation the reunification in 1920, it was Ingrid’s insistence that he continued his daily rides in Copenhagen during the Occupation that bolstered his popularity immensely, turning him into a national symbol of quiet resistance.

Hope all afflicted with CV19 recover. I hope Charles didn’t infect too many. I have always gotten the impression he’s not at healthy as his mom. That severe swelling of fingers (autoimmune disease?).

Pumps Mom Carole probably has butterflies in her stomach just thinking she could see her daughter realize the end prize sooner than expected.

Oh gawd, funnily enough Carole was my first thought when I heard the news. I bet she’s rubbing her hand together with a smirk on her face thinking “soon all this will belong to kate”.

Mama and papa Middleton is about age 60. I think they will worry more about their future than Kate and how they will have any money for future beacuse already their company is crashing with this economy. I hardly doubt it will survive.

I guess kate is ‘their’ future. I remember stories about how ma Middleton wasn’t allowed to stay at KP when she tried to move her ass in ‘unofficially’ of course, and also her bossing around the staff at amber hall, because she literally thinks she owns the place. When William and Kate take the throne, she will try her best to get her own wing at BP.
