Tencent Quietly Offers a Cut of WeChat's Revenues to Apple
nched Mini Programs for WeChat in early 2017. These streamlined versions of mobile apps ran within WeChat, and effectively gave Tencent a mobile app ecosystem which was detached from iOS and Android.

WeChat's total number of Mini Programs topped one million in 2018, making it roughly half the size of Apple's App Store in China. Tencent stated that daily active users (DAUs) for those Mini Programs rose 45% annually to 300 million last quarter.

Bytedance reportedly builds gaming division
Bytedance has built a team of more than 1,000 people, poaching top talent from its rivals, according to the sources. It has onboarded the core developer team of NetEase-linked Pangu Game. And one of the creative teams is led by Wang Kuiwu, who joined Bytedance from Chinese game developer and esports tournament organizer Perfect World.

Danish brickmaker LEGO and Chinese media giant Tencent have renewed their memorandum of understanding for another two years to expand on a strategic partnership that focuses on digital play experiences for Chinese kids.

The two companies first signed an agreement in 2018 to create a number of new interactive kids experiences, including a localized version of coding property LEGO Boost and the co-development of social network LEGO Life for the region. LEGO also launched a branded zone in Tencent’s online video streaming platform (pictured).

Official: Universal Music Group to sell 10% stake, worth over $3bn, to Tencent-led Consortium
Tencent Holdings Ltd has today (December 31) informed its shareholders that a Tencent-led Consortium has signed a share purchase agreement with Vivendi to acquire 10% of Universal Music Group. The deal has been struck with UMG holding an enterprise value of €30bn ($33.6bn), meaning that over $3bn will land in Vivendi’s coffers as a result of the acquisition. The Tencent-led Consortium is joined by Tencent Music Entertainment Group and undisclosed ‘global financial investors’.
