Les emplacements avec une densité éolienne moyenne d’au moins 215 W / m2 (hauteur du moyeu 160) devraient être considérés comme appropriés dans le nouvel Atlas. Cela correspond - converti à l'ancienne base d'imposition - à une vitesse annuelle moyenne du vent de 5,65 m / s à 5,9 m / s à 160 m au-dessus du sol. Cette nouvelle valeur d'orientation pour les zones appropriées - au moins 215 W / m2 - est recommandée comme base future pour l'évaluation par les autorités de planification et les autorités.

China’s Ambitious Plan to Build the World’s Biggest Supergrid

But even as China celebrates the completion of more than 30,000 km of UHV lines, power engineers are struggling to master the resulting hybrid AC-DC transmission system. They must ensure that the new long-haul DC lines don’t destabilize China’s regional AC grids. For example, if the 8-gigawatt DC line from Gansu were to unexpectedly go off line, the power shock could cause widespread blackouts in Hunan and beyond.

To minimize the threat, the State Grid Corp. of China, a state-owned company that runs most of China’s transmission and distribution grids, intentionally limits the line’s throughput to no more than 4.5 GW. In practice, the line has carried less than one-quarter of its design capacity on average. That’s one reason why over one-third of Gansu province’s theoretical wind output and one-fifth of its solar potential went unused in 2017. Other UHV lines in neighboring regions have similarly operated below capacity. And eastern provinces don’t have sufficient incentive to import the cleaner power that the UHV lines offer.

State Grid’s long-term goal to interconnect its regional grids should also reduce curtailment, experts say. Zhang Ning, an authority on renewables integration at Tsinghua University, points out that the Southwest grid’s hydropower can balance the fluctuations in the Northwest’s wind and solar output. If we interconnect the West, curtailment of wind power there can be reduced from more than 20 percent to 5 percent, he estimates, and both regions’ use of coal can also be cut.

Toolkit Produced for Optimizing Floating Renewables Devices
The toolkit consists of two main components: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using Proteus open-source software and Multi-Body Dynamics (MBD) using the Chrono open-source solver. Both models have been validated separately and together. Using a CFD model early in development can reduce costs in design optimization by performing full-scale simulations under realistic sea states, before performing laboratory tests which may be subject to practical limitations.

PPE: l'éolien en mer "sabordé", selon France Énergie éolienne
Ils ont promis un triplement de l'éolien terrestre d'ici 2030. Concernant l'éolien en mer, le premier parc sera mis en service au large de Saint-Nazaire durant le quinquennat "et nous lancerons quatre nouveaux appels d'offres", a indiqué Emmanuel Macron. L'exécutif vise ainsi jusqu'à 35,6 gigawatts (GW) de capacités dans l'éolien terrestre en 2028 et jusqu'à 5,2 GW en mer. France énergie éolienne estime que le déploiement de l'éolien en mer est ainsi "sabordé". "Avec des objectifs réduits de moitié par rapport aux recommandations de la filière, le gouvernement renonce au potentiel énergétique et industriel de cette énergie", estiment les professionnels.

Winds of change blow through renewable energy market

Developers who have made subsidy-free bids are relying on rises in wholesale power prices, further dramatic cost reductions in the industry and continued developments in wind turbine technology.

Turbines being installed today have a capacity of about 9 megawatts but by the middle of the next decade, developers are hoping to fit much taller, more powerful turbines of 13-15MW. This would mean fewer per project.

Gunnar Groebler, head of wind at Vattenfall, believes the risks of subsidy-free projects can be reduced by striking long-term power supply contracts with large companies, known in the industry as corporate power purchase agreements (PPA). These are growing in popularity in Europe, as large companies, including Microsoft, seek to reduce their carbon emissions and their energy bills.

L’éolien français manque de souffle

L’énergie éolienne ne fournit aujourd’hui que 4 % de l’électricité française. Lourdeurs administratives et efficacité des recours expliquent cette piètre performance. Le gouvernement tente cependant d’encourager l’essor d’une filière industrielle.

La loi de transition énergétique, votée en 2015, fixe ainsi un objectif d’au moins 22 000 mégawatts (MW) de capacité installée en éolien terrestre à l’horizon 2023, contre 12 000 MW aujourd’hui. Concrètement, pour atteindre cet objectif, il faudra ajouter plus de 4 000 éoliennes aux 6 500 existantes. Mais pour atteindre l’autre objectif de la loi, celui de réduire à 50 % la part du nucléaire dans la production d’électricité, il faudra aller bien plus loin.

« On nous fait poser des Nokia 3310 alors que l’iPhone est déjà disponible, résume un industriel du secteur. Auparavant, on avait quatre mâts de 1 MW chacun, alors qu’aujourd’hui on peut avoir un mât qui produit 4 MW. Mais on ne peut pas les installer puisqu’ils n’existaient pas au moment du dépôt du projet. »

« La complexité joue en faveur de l’Europe. Une éolienne, c’est plus compliqué à fabriquer et surtout à exporter qu’un panneau solaire. »

Grâce à ces modifications, le SER estime que le temps moyen de développement d’un projet d’éolien terrestre en France pourrait descendre à cinq ans – contre sept à dix ans aujourd’hui

Certains y voient même la possibilité de créer une filière industrielle française, après plusieurs faux départs. Siemens Gamesa a ainsi une usine d’éoliennes offshore qui pourrait être prête pour 2019 au Havre (Seine-Maritime), et défend une adaptation du port afin de pouvoir accueillir les gigantesques navires nécessaires à l’installation des éoliennes en mer. General Electric attend également de pouvoir faire fonctionner à plein régime ses usines de Montoir-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique) et de Cherbourg (Manche)… une fois que les projets lancés en 2011 seront confirmés.

Wind turbine maker Goldwind looks beyond Xinjiang
Dabancheng wind farm’s location in a natural wind tunnel in China’s Xinjiang province makes it one of the best situated in the world. It is also a showcase for the turbine manufacturer Goldwind, which became the largest supplier in the world after installing so much turbine capacity in 2015 that it overtook Vestas of Denmark.

Whether or not those young enthusiasts make the trip, Goldwind is coming to them. Last year, China accounted for half the world’s wind power installation. It now has a third of the world’s total wind power generation capacity.

However, a bottleneck in transmission lines out of the region means that almost half its installed wind power went unused in the first quarter of 2016.

Most of Goldwind’s technology is licensed from Germany’s Vensys, although Goldwind has made alterations to the original designs.

Currently, wind power generation in the north of China (home to strong and regular winds) costs slightly less than thermal power generation in the south, where coal is more expensive and emissions standards are stricter. However, coal is cheapest in Xinjiang and northern China, leaving wind power at a disadvantage in its most favourable region.

China Aims to Spend at Least $360 Billion on Renewable Energy by 2020

China intends to spend more than $360 billion through 2020 on renewable power sources like solar and wind, the government’s energy agency said on Thursday.

The agency said in a statement that China would create more than 13 million jobs in the renewable energy sector by 2020, curb the growth of greenhouse gasses that contribute to global warming and reduce the amount of soot that in recent days has blanketed Beijing and other Chinese cities in a noxious cloud of smog.

Greenpeace estimates that China installed an average of more than one wind turbine every hour of every day in 2015, and covered the equivalent of one soccer field every hour with solar panels.

My experience with China is when a numeric target gets written down, it gets implemented, Mr. Myllyvirta said. It doesn’t always get implemented in the way you like, but it does get implemented.

I subsequently joined Institute of Technology, Shimizu Co. Ltd. as a researcher in 1992 and was engaged in environmental engineering and the wind resistant design of high rise buildings and development of respective technologies. I was appointed associate professor of Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Tokyo in 2000, moved to Institute of Engineering Innovation as associate professor in 2004 and was then promoted to full professor in Department of Civil Engineering in 2008. My research focus is in the field of wind resistant design and wind energy. I am best known for wind resource assessment, wind power forecasting, wind resistant design of wind turbine support structure and development of the floating offshore wind turbine system. Recently I was engaged in research projects such as “Short and long term environmental conditions forecasting for a safe and reliable society”, “Wind power forecasting based on meteorological models”, “Study on floating offshore wind turbine systems”and “Research and development of offshore wind power generation technology”.

Sunshine revolution: the age of solar power -
For decades the electricity industry has been a cautious and conservative business, but the plunging prices of solar panels, down by about two-thirds in the past six years, have woken it up with a bang. Dynamic rooftop solar power companies have entered the market, in the most radical change to electricity supplies since the industry was born in the 19th century. It has been described as the equivalent of the mobile revolution in telephony, or the PC in computing.

Solar power and onshore wind power are the two most cost-effective forms of renewables but solar has the greater capacity for costs to fall further. “Wind is basically mechanics; solar is electronics. And the progress there is much more rapid, and will continue,” says Gérard Mestrallet, chief executive of Engie, the French energy group. Solar is also flexible in scale: it can power a calculator, or a city.

Electricity from SolarCity’s panels costs significantly less per kilowatt hour than the rates charged by NV Energy, the local utility. Typically customers can save 20-25 per cent on their electricity bills by going solar.

Wind and wave farms could affect Earth's energy balance
At present, humans use only about 1 part in 10,000 of the total energy that comes to Earth from the sun. But this ratio is misleading, Kleidon says. Instead, we should be looking at how much useful energy - called “free” energy in the parlance of thermodynamics - is available from the global system, and our impact on that.

Humans currently use energy at the rate of 47 terawatts (TW) or trillions of watts, mostly by burning fossil fuels and harvesting farmed plants, Kleidon calculates in a paper to be published in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. This corresponds to roughly 5 to 10 per cent of the free energy generated by the global system.

Although the winds will not die, sucking that much energy out of the atmosphere in Kleidon’s model changed precipitation, turbulence and the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth’s surface. The magnitude of the changes was comparable to the changes to the climate caused by doubling atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (Earth System Dynamics, DOI: 10.5194/esd-2-1-2011).

Alstom lance la filière française de l’éolien marin
L’usine située en loire-Atlantique ne pourra pas se contenter du seul marché français.

Les industriels soulignent les atouts de la France : une facade martime importante et un bon régime des vents, un réseau de transport et de distribution d'électricité solide et bien maillé, de nombreuses entreprises impliquées dans les projets éoliens, de grands ports (Le Havre, Dunkerque, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire, Cherbourg, Brest) capables d'accueillir ces activités.

La plus grande inconnue reste le coût de l'électricité produite par ces éoliennes offshore. Dans le cadre de son obligation de rachat, EDF doit payer 180 à 200 euros le mégawattheure (MWh), un prix bien supérieur à toutes les autres formes d'énergie (nucléaire, charbon, gaz, hydraulique...). Le SER juge cependant possible, d'ici à 2030, de le ramener à 100-120 euros par MWh grâce à des gains de productivité sur la chaîne de fabrication, des progrès technologiques et une baisse des coûts d'installation.

Une filière vraiment française ? Plutôt franco-américaine. Le secteur énergie d'Alstom va, en effet, passer sous le contrôle de General Electric (GE) au premier semestre 2015. M. Valls n'a pas manqué de l'évoquer, affirmant que " l'alliance avec General Electric avance bien, conformément aux engagements pris en juin ". Cet accord prévoit notamment la création d'une coentreprise entre Alstom et le géant américain pour développer des équipements. Dans ce cadre, GE affirme qu'il va faire de Nantes le siège mondial de son activité dans les énergies marines renouvelables (éoliennes, hydroliennes...) : Alstom-GE a promis 250 emplois dans le centre nantais de recherche et développement, qui s'ajouteront aux 300 postes créés dans l'usine.

However, the power output scales up rapidly as you increase the turbine's diameter. Simpson calculates that a 10-metre turbine will produce so kilowatts of power using the same method. The team says that an array of these vortex turbines could produce 16 megawatts for every square kilometre they cover. This is not bad considering conventional wind turbines yield just 3 and 6 megawatts per square kilometre. In fact, the team estimates that the electricity produced by a Solar Vortex will be 20 per cent cheaper than energy from wind turbines and 65 per cent cheaper than solar power.
