XeTeX works with unicode and the PDF fonts on your system. If you use one of the existing setups, it is usually pretty easy, but you need to define the font name that is available on your system.

How do I prevent LaTeX from padding spaces between paragraphs so that next section begins at top of next page? - Stack Overflow
The parameter that controls inter-paragraph spacing is called \parskip. You set it (with "rubber" values) using something like:

\setlength{\parskip}{1cm plus4mm minus3mm}
The defualt value of \parskip is class dependent. The "plus" and "minus" parts tell TeX how much it can adjust the value to improve the layout (that is they make the spacing elastic, thus the "rubber" designation). Reducing (or eliminating) the "plus" part of the rubber might help.

overlays - How can I distribute beamer overlayareas in handout mode across multiple frames? - TeX - LaTeX Stack Exchange
The <handout:O> syntax tells beamer to remove something from a slide in the handout version. It can also be used to tell beamer to put things on different slides in the handout version. Thus saying <handout:2> says "make sure that there is a second slide in the handout version and put this on it.".

Presentations with Beamer pt 5 - Themes and Handouts - ShareLaTeX, Online LaTeX Editor
The inner theme dictates the style of the title and part pages, the itemize, enumerate, description, block, theorem and proof environments as well as figures, tables, footnotes and bibliography entries. For example we could also load up the ‘rectangles’ inner theme. We do this using the \useinnertheme command. This has made our table of contents and lists use rectangles as bullet points:

vertical alignment - minipage environment with bottom-aligned - TeX - LaTeX Stack Exchange
\begin{minipage}[t][][b]{0.2\textwidth}
The first optional argument, t, defines the 'anchor' of the minipage, so here the top is placed on the baseline. The last optional argument, b, defines where in the minipage the content should be placed, here it is placed at the bottom.

The second optional argument, which I left empty, defines the height of the minipage. I'm not exactly sure what happens when it is left empty, I assumed it would use the natural height, but someone else would have to verify that.

typography - Should subscripts in math mode be upright? - TeX - LaTeX Stack Exchange
Using "all italics" is unfortunately an often committed sin. You should italicize only variables.

Everything else should be upright. For example:

function names (sin, cos, log, ln etc...)
dimensionless numbers (Re, Pr, Ra...)
exact infinitesimal increments (dx, dy et... in BOTH integrals and differentials)
descriptive text
all descriptive variable indices (unless they are also variables)
Exceptions to this rule may still apply, i.e. the Euler-number $e$ is no variable, but still traditionally written in italics.

vim spell check of latex file - Google Groups
(since neither texRefOption nor texCite contains @Spell). I'm not sure
it's the 'right' way, but the following works:

:syn match texRefZone /\\onlinecite\%([tp]\*\=\)\=/ nextgroup=texRefOption,texCite

It should be set up in some autocommand, though you might even be able
to just add it to ~/.vim/after/syntax/tex.vim

The reason I say it may not be the 'right' way is that the texCite match
might set up other features (some kind of checking) that might not be
appropriate for \onlinecite{}. If that's fine, though, it should be
okay.

User Manual for glossaries.sty v4.15
When you write technical documents, regardless of whether it’s a PhD thesis or an article for a journal or proceedings, you must plan what you write in advance. If you plan in advance, you should have a fairly good idea of the type of terminology that your document will contain, so while you are planning, create a new file with all your entry definitions. If, while you’re writing your document, you remember another term you need, then you can switch over to your definition file and add it. Most text editors have the ability to have more than one file open at a time. The other advantage to this approach is that if you forget the label, you can look it up in the definition file rather than searching through your document text to find the definition.

Why shouldn't I use include to include my glossary definitions?
Why shouldn't I use \include to include my glossary definitions?

Suppose you've defined all your glossary entries in a file called glossary-defs.tex and you want to use some or all of these entries in your document. The glossaries user guide says that you can use:
\loadglsentries[type]{filename}

to load the file. For example:

\loadglsentries{glossary-defs}
You can also use \input{filename} (e.g., \input{glossary-defs}) but you shouldn't use \include{filename}, despite the number of web pages that suggest you can or should.
Although both \input and \include make TeX read the named file, these two commands aren't equivalent. The first, \input, acts as though the contents of the file were written directly in your document in place of the \input command. The other one, \include, does a lot more than this. It

checks it hasn't been nested;
issues a \clearpage;
writes a line to the main .aux file;
checks if the file should be included or excluded. (See \includeonly and \excludeonly). If it should be included, then it:
creates an associated .aux file that's used instead of the main .aux file while the included contents are being read;
reads the included file;
issues another \clearpage;
sets the values of various counters.
Therefore, if you want to just input the contents of a file, \include is far less efficient than \input, can cause a spurious page break and creates a redundant extra file. So always use either \input or \loadglsentries to load your glossary definitions and only do this in the preamble.
