Why I prefer the iPad Pro to my Mac for importing and editing photos | iMore
4. The iPad opens up Pixelmator automatically with my image inside it; I use the Apple Pencil to eradicate any stray pet hair or dust motes with Pixelmator's Repair tool, and adjust color if necessary.
5. I tap "Open in Another App", choose my format (JPG), and run my "Resize, name, and upload to iCloud Drive" workflow that resizes the image, names it, and uploads it to iCloud Drive.

With the iPhone 7, Apple Changed the Camera Industry Forever - The New Yorker
The distinct business advantage that Apple has achieved thanks to its hardware is the sheer volume of iPhone sales, which justifies the big spending on the specialized chips that make that hardware so powerful. The new image processor is a perfect example. It can spread the cost of that investment in chips over hundreds of millions of iPhones. In comparison, the falling sales of stand-alone cameras have hampered the ability of camera companies to innovate and spend on core technologies. Given that hardware and software are equally important today, Apple’s advances in both areas makes it difficult for anyone to beat the company in photography for the masses. You can see why the camera companies are doomed.

What can Ansel Adams’s enduring photography teach us in the age of Instagram? | Aeon Videos
With an oeuvre that’s both innovative and enduring, the US photographer Ansel Adams is almost universally regarded as a master of his craft and a pioneer in photographic art. Because his black-and-white landscapes have become so ubiquitous – commonly found on postcards, computer backgrounds and doctor’s office walls – it’s easy to take the beauty of his images for granted. But as Evan Puschak (also known as The Nerdwriter) shows in this video essay, there’s perhaps never been a better time to re-examine the careful, deliberate approach Adams took to his work.

Prolost - Blog - How to Take Good Photos for Under $1,000
Post-process your photos using Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom is about $100, and worth every penny and more.

In Lightroom, you’ll both organize and process your photos. If you don’t do either of these things, your photos won’t be good. Failing to process your photos means they’ll look mediocre. Failing to organize your photos means that no one will ever see them.

I’m sure you’ve been tempted to buy a camera that costs around $1,000, but the above items, which total well under a grand, will serve you better—and they comprise a real system for making, organizing, and sharing better photos. Welcome to the world of people complimenting your photography by asking you what kind of camera you use!

The Shy, Discreet Energy of Tokyo
Delano first travelled to Japan in 1993. He has spent most of the past two decades in Tokyo, documenting the city. “The megalopolis, jam-packed with shy, discreet people, creates an eccentric energy unlike any city on earth,” Delano wrote to me. He records this energy to create a collection of visual evidence that will offer future generations insight into the daily life of postmodern Japan. His vignette-style framing and use of black-and-white film recalls documentary photography at the turn of the twentieth century, and is a deliberate nod to the original, purely documentary purpose of the medium.

How to Feed Yourself on Less than $1 a Day
What does it mean to be hungry and poor? With such divergence across countries as to what the "poverty line" means, we set out to visualize what poverty looks like by highlighting something that everyone can understand -- food.
Starting from the oft-quoted $1 per person, per day U.N. figure, we attempted to calculate our own national figures, creating a visual portrayal of items found in a given country that could be bought by a person living at the poverty line. For developed countries, where there is relatively updated household consumption data, we focused on the average daily amount that a person at the poverty line would spend on food. For developing countries, we used the average amount that a person at the poverty line earns and spends each day. From Australia to Madagascar, from France to Nepal, here's what we found.
