James Paul
“Consumerism is a cancer. I can’t offer salvation from the cancer while feeding the tumor at the same time. Many of our church plants...were not making new disciples [of Jesus], we were just moving bored ones. We were harming them by moving bored Christians and offering them something else to distract them.”

We stick kids in classrooms 7 hours a day, give them another few hours of homework, actively discourage them from playing outside, and then wonder why kids today are so out of shape. : Showerthoughts

A Sober Warning from the Earliest Christians - Tim Challies
Writing of the early church, Bruce Shelley said, “To the Roman, the Christian seemed utterly intolerant and insanely stubborn; worse, he was a self-confessed disloyal citizen.” But that Christian, through all his stubbornness, maintained a clear conscience before God. He was willing to suffer, knowing that he owed far greater loyalty to Christ than to any emperor, to his heavenly nation than any empire. May the same be said for us today.

William Wheaton - Wikipedia
In 1887, Wheaton gave an interview to The San Francisco Daily Examiner, describing the early days of baseball in New York. He recalled that:[1]
"We played no exhibition or match games, but often our families would come over and look on with much enjoyment. Then we used to have dinner in the middle of the day, and twice a week we would spend the whole afternoon in ball play. We were all mature men and in business, but we didn't have too much of it as they do nowadays. There was none of that hurry and worry so characteristic of the present New York. We enjoyed life and didn't wear out so fast."[1]

Dr. Everett Piper: A Man Among Boys | The American Conservative
Oklahoma Wesleyan is not a “safe place”, but rather, a place to learn: to learn that life isn’t about you, but about others; that the bad feeling you have while listening to a sermon is called guilt; that the way to address it is to repent of everything that’s wrong with you rather than blame others for everything that’s wrong with them. This is a place where you will quickly learn that you need to grow up!

This is not a day care. This is a university!

Paris Attacks discussion thread : europe
Multiculturalism is not working. This isn't condemning an entire race or religion, but if there is a disproportionate amount of these negative events from one group, the continent must do some soul searching.

It's not multiculturalism as whole that's not working, it's a specific culture that refuses to integrate.

I wouldn't call it a culture. It's more of an ideology, and even then...
The ideology is Wahhabism (also known as Salafism), which is a sub sect of the Sunni branch of Islam. So it's subsection of a subsection of a religion

'Ghosting:' The 21st-Century Dating Problem Everyone Talks About, But No One Knows How To Deal With
Chelsea admits that's the case for her and a bunch of her friends. "I'm a total hypocrite in that respect. I'll ghost someone without a second thought but when it happens to me I'm the first to run to my girlfriends in disbelief saying, 'The least he could do is let me down easy,'" she said, adding, "It's probably karma."

The surprising take on the Confederate flag that every Alabama Christian should consider - Yellowhammer News
“The Confederate Battle Flag is a stumbling block to the Gospel for some people,” Sims concluded, “and that reason alone should be enough to Christians to put their personal feelings and freedoms aside for the sake of the Gospel.

“I’m annoyed to no end that there is so much political opportunism caught up in this. But this is one of those times where I feel like my Biblical worldview and my conservative political worldview are not in absolute perfect alignment, and in those situations… my Biblical worldview has to supersede what I believe politically as a conservative.”
