Spring in San Francisco
Tarus on VMWare/SpringSource, with some Hyperic comments and good open source world zinger: "most of that revenue was in services. Huh? I’ve been told for 7 years now that services companies aren’t worth anything. In fact, I was told that by Benchmark, the people that just made a bunch of money on this sale. Tricksy, no?"

"We were managing about 1500 devices, which is pretty average for our commercial clients, and at US$30K for an Enterprise Greenlight (2 weeks on-site and a year of Enterprise support) they found it extremely affordable. The server should be able to support at least 100% growth over the next year or so, and due to the automated nature of OpenNMS discovery it should require very few changes to the configuration."

Adventures in Open Source » Blog Archive » Radio Free Europe
When you say 'open source' outside of the US, it means 100% free software. If you look at the column labeled “European View” it pretty much echos what I’ve been saying for years. The 'commercial' open source business model as seen in the United States View is not open source."

Classic. Big storage vendor uses old version of SNMP which bugs out, then tells OpenNMS to suck it when they discover it's broken.

RE: Why Only Two?
More discussion of OpenNMS vs. (Hyperic|Zenoss|GroundWork). Really, I guess the question is which one do enterprise people want, not which one is /real/ company. Things get too nuanced in the weeds otherwise.
