Kubernetes Operators extend Kubernetes API to manage third-party software as native Kubernetes objects. Various Operators are being built today for variety of softwares such as MySQL, Postgres, Airflow, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka, Prometheus, Logstash, Moodle, Wordpress, Odoo, etc. to run on Kubernetes. Consequently, we are seeing a new trend where fit-for-purpose application platforms are being created by composing multiple such Operators together on a Kubernetes cluster. The Custom Res...

Heat Maps
Heat maps allow three dimensions of data to be visualized, similar to weather radar maps where color is used as a dimension. As data is quantized into buckets, they are practical for handling large datasets, such as performance monitoring metrics across thousands of servers.

Bash shell-scripting libraries – Striving for greatness
One of the most powerful aspects of popular high-level languages is the existence of a comprehensive standard library. Unfortunately, the most popular Linux shell, bash, lacks a full-featured library bundled with it. A number of people have written libraries to compensate for this lack, which can make your life infinitely easier if you need to…

Parsing AWS Elastic Load Balancer log on the command line for fun and profit The Approachable Geek
Amazon Web Services Elastic Load Balancers are excellent bits of kit and one of the mot useful things they have is that you can enable logging easily. Every request that comes through gets a tonne of information logged about it and the log fires are dropped into an S3 bucket every 5 minutes (or more, this is configurable).

Because of the time delay, monitoring ELB logs for real-time alerting is not something I’ve experimented with, but processing logs to figure out what went on is something I’ve spent a lot of time on recently. It’s also a great excuse to glue some command line tools together

Makefile Howto - Waikato Linux Users Group
Makefiles are easy. In fact, to build a simple program that doesn't depend on any libraries, you don't even need a makefile. make(1) is smart enough to figure it all out itself. For instance, if you have a file "foo.c" in the current directory:

Start page – collectd – The system statistics collection daemon
collectd gathers metrics from various sources, e.g. the operating system, applications, logfiles and external devices, and stores this information or makes it available over the network. Those statistics can be used to monitor systems, find performance bottlenecks (i.e. performance analysis) and predict future system load (i.e. capacity planning). Or if you just want pretty graphs of your private server and are fed up with some homegrown solution you're at the right place, too ;).
