ASA Statement on Teaching Evaluations
Interesting and filled with relevant research to cite. Some concrete ideas here too. Maybe bring up in a future curriculum committee meeting?

tesseract R package
reads image scans, like on PDF. Extracts text. very cool, but couldn't get it to work on a PDF that also had handwritten notes on it - might work better when it is exclusively typed content.

Glisser Presentation Tool
I think it's not free, but it was recommended by Bonni on Teaching in Higher Ed and it seems like it would be good for engaging the audience.

AALHE Curriculum Mapping Example
From ASSESS Newsletter quote:
"You can take a look at our article for Intersection Summer 2017 here https://cdn.ymaws.com/www.aalhe.org/resource/resmgr/docs/Int/AAHLE_Summer_2017_Intersecti.pdf. This lays out the basics of our approach to mapping a curriculum and includes our Office of Undergraduate Education curriculum map, which features both curricular and co-curricular High Impact Practices to demonstrate how the office helps students integrate learning across the curriculum."

The Use of External Examinations as Student Learning Outcome Measures
Hello Colleagues,

I read with interest the discussion of validity and reliability and wanted to add a little to the exchange regarding validity.

As I and my colleagues in arts assessment attest, validity is one of the most important but most widely misunderstood concepts in assessment. It’s important, in my view, to stress that validity is an interpretation and use argument and not a characteristic of the measure itself. At UF we ask our faculty to provide validity arguments when they use third-party measures as program SLO measures. We stress that validity arguments present the evidence and/or theory that justifies the use of specific assessment results for their intended purpose.

Also the 2014 update of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (2014, AERA, APA & NCME) make clear that validity is now viewed as a unitary concept. They no longer discuss validity types (content, criterion, etc.) but rather evidence based on the area of interest.

Sincerely,

Tim

A Practical Guide to Assessment - Videos
From Assess Listserv - these seem like they could be really useful!
--------------------------
Like most of you, I love to collect great assessment resources to share with faculty. I wanted to share with you all a link to a series of videos that were created by Tim Brophy at the University of Florida. These videos are here - https://assessment.aa.ufl.edu/faculty-resources/a-practical-guide-to-assessment/ as part of the Practical Guide to Assessment that Tim has put together. There are 20 videos and they are on different topics that can be really useful to faculty and/or assessment committee members.

Tim has given me permission to share this and I hope you enjoy it! Thanks, Tim!!!
