What's next for curated film platform MUBI? | Features | Screen
After 10 years in business and $20m of investment, SVoD platform MUBI is about to enter a new phase in the company’s history — it should become cash-flow positive for the first time in 2018, company founder and CEO Efe Cakarel tells Screen International.

Mubi - Page 5 -
Because I didn't throw a big enough tantrum over at Reddit's Criterion forum, I wanted to note that MUBI curiously increased their price this morning by three dollars. As far as I can tell, this was without notice. The only reason I can understand this increase is if they launch a full on-demand service with more titles to choose from. We'll wait and see.

Topic: Excellent Time Saver and Very Reliable | WordPress.org
I started using MainWP when I was having issues with Manage WP, plus I hate that Manage WP partnered up with GoDaddy. Anyways, MainWP is awesome and I love the flexibility of hosting my own management tool. I have been using it for a couple of months and it has proven to be ultra reliable and an excellent time saver. Connecting sites have been very easy and they stay connected.

Slave Life and Slave Codes [ushistory.org]
Any slave found guilty of arson, rape of a white woman, or conspiracy to rebel was put to death. However, since the slave woman was chattel, a white man who raped her was guilty only of a trespass on the master's property. Rape was common on the plantation, and very few cases were ever reported.

Slave Overseers
After being thus flogged and pickled, the sufferers often remained tied up all day, the feet just touching the ground, the legs tied, and pieces of wood put between the legs. All the motion allowed was a slight turn of the neck. Thus exposed and helpless, the yellow flies and mosquitoes in great numbers would settle on the bleeding and smarting back, and put the sufferer to extreme torture. This continued all day, for they were not taken down till night."

Aluminum vs Carbon fiber tripod, a marketing hoax? | Photo.net Photography Forums
The only CF tripods I have used, have twist-locks on the legs and I find that unacceptable. Here's why:
To set my lever-lock tripods up, I first open all the locking levers and let the legs fall to the ground, usually with the camera mount at roughly eye level. Then I lock the levers on one leg, which gives me something to lean on as I lock the other two at the same length.

I can only imagine the change performers have seen in their audiences over the past ten years, as they’ve looked out onto crowds composed increasingly of checked-out blue faces. It must feel awful. MoA - Seeing Social Decline As A National Security Threat May Change Conservative Policies
It is not the only system. In China, according to what I have read, there is a tradition (mainly in rural communities? I am not sure) by which the patient pays the doctor regularly when he is healthy. As soon as he gets sick he stops paying, and the doctor is obliged to treat him; he only resumes paying after he is cured. It is a very good system which incentivises high morality, whereas the Western system incentivises immorality.

The dramatic increase in the fund’s size would make the PIF the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world. On December 1, 2012, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself in front of then GM Scott Pioli and then head coach Romeo Crennel. A year later, on behalf of Belcher's minor daughter, a family lawyer filed a wrongful-death lawsuit, against the Chiefs, alleging that the team deliberately ignored warning signs of CTE, possibly leading to Belcher's suicide. The lawyer also hired a medical examiner to examine Belcher's brain for signs of CTE. On September 29, 2014, it was confirmed that he had CTE.[44]

Macron to Trump: 'You're No Patriot!', by Pat Buchanan - The Unz Review
Countries that have Muslim and sub-saharan African populations of 35% don’t function well, if at all. Muslims will push for more control. Either the native France will accede or there will be constant, low-level violence as the Muslims and the native French vie for control of the streets.

Even if the native French somehow managed to control the Muslims and Africans, they’ll need to turn France into a military state that would make the Apartheid in South Africa look gentle and open to keep that control.

The Best 3 Photo RAW Converters of 2013 - Media Division
The optical quality of edited shots in Lightroom 3.6/5 can be pretty amazing, though when I make some key large poster prints, DxO 8 is almost always my choice. The fine detail (noise/sharpening), color rendition capabilities, and optical corrections make it the better choice for me for most of the high-profile shots. Using the two in tandem (Lightroom for all shots, and exporting to DxO for maybe 100 of my photos for large prints so far), seems to strike the balance I need. On the other hand, DxO-standalone would be totally lost with the amount of data given.

RAW Processors – an extensive review of Aperture, Bibble, Capture One, DxO and Lightroom - Media Division
On the negative side, the auto vignetting is a bit erratic in its behavior. To be handled with care because it is affecting the lighter tones…that when its results are not just catastrophic and one just has to shut it down completely or use it in manual. I for one, prefer to shut it down because I do not find it very artistic.

Removing Haze from an Image: DxO OpticsPro with ClearView vs. Aperture, Capture One and Lightroom | PhotoJoseph.com
Listing the programs by their anti-haze capabilities gives the following ranking: (1) DxO OpticsPro; (2) Capture One; (3) Lightroom; and (4) Aperture. Details were best in Capture One and DxO Pro, which confirms several other comparative tests I have done. The foreground beach came out best in my view in Aperture and Capture One; between the two it’s probably a matter of taste and how far you want to take the adjustments to get the results you prefer.

DXO Pro 11 v CaptureOne 10.1 v Lightroom – Simon Cooper Media
Capture One V10.1 is really very good. If you can live with the overly black and non-standard interface with it’s orange accents. I do like orange but the sliders are still way too skinny and pop-overs and dialogues like the import box is all the same tone so it’s impossible to see where the main interface starts and the import one ends. Bad UI design as far as I’m concerned.in my opinion.
