Drawn Together: The Evolution of Architectural Scale Figures
"As they evolved, illustrated figures in architecture (sometimes called ‘scalies’) have grown to have more personality, color and life, serving as more than a means to measure relative distances, heights and widths in renderings."

A Color Exercise for our Brand’s Illustration
"To further streamline our illustration process we decided to conduct an exercise, an experiment of sorts, in color harmonies with our recently updated color palette.

We wanted to treat this exercise as a guideline that would help us use our brand’s unique set of colors effectively and efficiently. With an array of hues, shades and tints to choose from, we knew this exercise would be a time-saver when working with color."

Machine Learning En Plein Air: Building accessible tools for artists

Designing a Data Visualization Dashboard Like It was a Game
"Here, I’ll focus in on specific attributes of charts and analytical applications that, if viewed as game elements, could enable new approaches for how to design, navigate and manipulate analytical applications such as data dashboards. Some of the mechanics I think are most adaptable from the discourse of games into the discourse of data visualization are: maps, items, crafting and guild halls."

What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Data Visualization
"Games can provide a useful metaphor for how to deal with some of the challenges of making effective data visualization products. But to understand how game concepts can improve data visualization, we need to better understand the structure of games and identify those kinds of games which most relate to the exploratory data visualization experience."

A chat with the Orwellian mastermind in charge of the UK town known as Scarfolk
"Scarfolk is a quaint town in the north west of England. At first glance it appears perfectly ordinary. Neighbours chat to each other over hedges while children play in the quiet, suburban streets. Yet this provincial place has received a lot of media attention over the past five years. Rumours have surfaced claiming that the town has not progressed since 1979 and the local council's poster production points to a community that is stuck in the 1970s. It's Nice That decided to find out more about the local society and its notorious designs."

Machines for Living In: Le Cobusier’s Pivotal “Five Points of Architecture”
"Le Corbusier was a painter, writer, architect and planner, but he was also an adept promoter of novel designs and theories. So when he debuted his Maison Dom-Ino concept home, it boasted a light and elegant form, but was also cleverly named — its title referenced the look and modularity of gaming “dominoes” (with dots extruded to form columns) as well as “domus,” the Latin word for house."

The Polak Game, Or: Where Do You Stand?
This article describes the origins and uses of a classroom and workshop activity called "The Polak Game" or "Where do you Stand?". Over a dozen years of use to date, the game has provided a user-friendly structure for facilitating quite far-reaching conversation among foresight students and clients. Duration is flexible, but typically runs 30-60 minutes. It represents an effective and accessible approach to introducing "images of the future" as a basic property of both cultures and individuals, and so to pave the way for more advanced tools and frameworks.
