If Only We Could “Maggie” Maggie Herself | SciEditor
“If you’ve needed to resuscitate a problematic Word document, you’ve probably done “a Maggie.” Copying everything but the final pilcrow into a fresh Word document breathes hope into files that seem beyond redemption because Word saves a hoard of information in that last hidden character. And that hoard can cause Word to crash or fail, again and again. Omitting the final pilcrow purges the problematic hidden code.”

GoToFile: Find any file. Instantly.
(Well—this looks kinda neat.)
“Type a few characters and GoToFile will show matching items instantaneous. Fuzzy Search means you can leave out characters and type only the more pregnant ones. It’s just the order that matters. Typing upper-case characters will favour items with those characters at word boundaries. GoToFile can search by file name or by complete path.”

Mozilla’s Send is basically the Snapchat of file sharing - The Verge
"Mozilla has launched a new website that makes it really easy to send a file from one person to another. The site is called Send, and it’s basically the Snapchat of file sharing: after a file has been downloaded once, it disappears for good.

"That might sound like a gimmick, but it underscores what the site is meant for. It’s designed for quick and private sharing between two people — not for long-term hosting or distributing files to a large group."

File Cabinet Pro | macOS App
(This looks interesting-ish, but it’s also $30. So.)
"File Cabinet Pro is the file manager for the macOS menu bar. Quickly navigate to files without cluttering your desktop. Open, move, rename, compress, tag, trash, copy and paste files, all from the menu bar. You can open many file types natively in File Cabinet Pro or open files by launching other applications. It’s easy to click into directories in icon view, drill through directories in list view, or navigate the file tree in column view."

Trickster - Your recently used files, at your fingertips!
Brett Terpstra recommended this, saying, "Trickster offers a menu bar popup that shows you your most recent files and gives you easy access to them. Track downloaded files or files you saved from any application and forgot where you put them. It can sort by type and allows flagging and favorites.”

But one caveat from one of Trickster’s Mac App Store reviews:
“Click & drag highlights multiple entries. To drag, I have to click once, then click again and drag, disking an accidental double-click."

(This is kind of a neat trick for requiring that a file have a certain *type* of metadata but without narrowing it down further.)

"You can, of course, include several such disabled criteria in your search template. This is especially useful when the criteria are in conflict. TidBITS Macs & Mac OS X: The Very Model of a Modern Mountain Lion Document
"In this article, I’ll sketch out how Mountain Lion is different from Lion with regard to this feature, and why, therefore, I personally like Mountain Lion much more than Lion.”

And also:
“Ask to keep changes when closing documents.” If this checkbox is unchecked, Mountain Lion behaves like Lion. If checked, though, Mountain Lion behaves more like Snow Leopard and before: The close button’s “dirty” dot returns! The warning dialog appears when you close a “dirty” document! So, in Mountain Lion, the chances are not as great as in Lion that you might accidentally keep unintended changes in a document."

"Note, however, that this checkbox does not turn off Auto Save; your document is still being saved automatically behind the scenes! The warning dialog asks “Do you want to save the changes…?” and its default button is labeled Save; but in fact the document has already been saved, and what you’re really deciding is whether to keep those saved changes or to revert the document to an earlier state (preserved, of course, in the Versions database). So Auto Save is still operative, but the interface gives the illusion that it isn’t."
