adunning/Mac-Keyboard-Layouts-for-Windows: Mac OS X Keyboard Layouts for Windows
“Since the 1980s, Macintosh computers have included a keyboard layout that facilitates the typing of diacritics and other symbols through the use of the Option key. Windows supplies an ‘International’ layout with a limited range of accents, but using this layout makes the quotation mark and apostrophe keys unusable.

“These keyboard layouts fix this situation: one duplicates the standard U.S. layout used on the Mac (also identical to the ‘Canadian English’ keyboard layout), and the other replicates the ‘U.S. Extended’ keyboard layout introduced with Mac OS X. The U.S. Extended provides more accents and places some characters in more logical positions, but the standard Mac layout provides access to a few mathematical symbols that some might find useful. Unlike the Windows layout, these do not change the basic U.S. keyboard.”

macOS dialog shortcut keys - BrettTerpstra.com
“Don’t Save
“Just like it has been for as long as I can remember, if the ‘Do you want to save…’ dialog’s button reads ‘Don’t Save,’ ⌘D will choose that option directly.

“Cancel
“In most dialogs you can use Escape to cancel, but not always. More reliably, you can trigger the ‘Cancel’ button with ⌘. (Command-period), which is also old school.

“Delete

“When you close an unsaved document in apps that are set up as document based apps, instead of ‘Don’t Save,’ the dialog’s ignore button reads ‘Delete,’ indicating that if you choose not to save or cancel the action, the document will never be written to disk. The shortcut for that button is ⌘⌫ (Command-Delete).”

iOS 12 Shortcut uses iPhone to record police during traffic stop - Business Insider
“There's a big new feature for iPhone experts this year: It's an app called Shortcuts, and with a little bit of logic and know-how, you can stitch together several apps and create a script that can be activated by pressing a button or using Siri.

@Some early uses are predictable, like saving Instagram photos, sharing the song you're listening to, or creating a morning routine that activates your lights and plays a song.

“But Robert Petersen of Arizona has developed a more serious shortcut: It's called Police, and it monitors police interactions so you have a record of what happened.”

Time to revisit accesskey? – Tink
“Interaction with the virtual buffer works like this: the screen reader listens for keyboard events. When it detects a key press that corresponds to a screen reader command, that action is executed in the virtual buffer. For example, if the h key is pressed when a Windows screen reader is running, focus will move to the next heading (h1 – h6) in the virtual buffer. Otherwise the key is passed back through to the browser, where it will be caught by the JavaScript that handles the shortcuts provided by the website.

“The trouble is that Windows screen readers utilise almost every available key for screen reader specific commands. This means that few keys make it past the screen reader to the browser, and consequently the JavaScript shortcuts are never triggered.”

[…]

“It is possible to tell both NVDA and Jaws to pass the next key through to the browser. In NVDA you press the NVDA modifier (insert) f2, followed by the key you want to pass through. In Jaws it’s the Jaws modifier (insert) 3, followed by the key to pass back to the browser. This is not a user-friendly way to interact with a website though, even assuming you know it’s possible in the first place.”

[…]

“An April 2015 update to Jaws 16 introduced a feature that attempts to solve the problem. The “Web application reserved keystrokes” setting tells Jaws to stop intercepting keys that have been reserved by the website. In the case of Facebook, Jaws would ignore the p as a command to move to the next paragraph, and send the key through to the browser where it would trigger the JavaScript shortcut for posting a status update.

“This feature does solve the problem (for Jaws users at least), but it’s something of a dirty hack. In order for Jaws to know which keys have been reserved by the website, it’s necessary to reference the shortcuts in the HTML. For example:

<div data-at-shortcutkeys={‘j’: ‘Key to navigate to next post’, ‘q’: ‘Key to place focus in chat’}></div>

“Jaws then has to scrape the DOM to get at that information. It’s a method that’s prone to error, and scraping the DOM is always much less efficient than querying the accessibility API.”

“Name the following Applescript ‘MicrosoftWordCloseSidebar.scpt’ (notice the reversed slash) and save it in ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Word Script Menu Items.”

jasonrudolph/keyboard: ⌨ Toward a more useful keyboard
“To activate, push the s and d keys simultaneously and hold them down. Now you’re in (S)uper (D)uper Mode. It’s like a secret keyboard inside your keyboard. (Whoa.) It’s optimized for keeping you on the home row, or very close to it. Now you can:

“Use h / j / k / l for left/down/up/right respectively
“Use a for option (AKA alt)
“Use f for command
“Use space for shift
“Use a + j / k for page down / page up
“Use i / o to move to the previous/next tab
“Use u / p to go to the first/last tab (in most apps)
“Use a + h / l to move to previous/next word (in most apps)”

A Modern Space Cadet / Steve Losh
“The important thing I thought of one day is that it’s possible to divide keys on the keyboard into three groups:

“Keys you hold down to change how other keys behave, but that (usually) don’t do anything if you use them on their own (like Shift and Control).

“•Keys that you press and release but don’t want to ‘repeat’ as you hold them (like Escape or Insert).

“• Keys that you sometimes press and release, but sometimes want to repeat (like holding Space to insert a bunch of spaces, or Backspace to kill a bunch of characters).

“• Can you see where this is heading? The last group is pretty normal, but the first two groups are special. Specifically: there are two different ways to use them and they’re each only useful in one of those ways.

“This means that we can combine them onto a single key without losing any useful functionality!”

(Also:)
I forgot to mention that if you use this (and the Shift improvements below) you’ll probably want to change the “[Key Overlaid Modifier] Timeout” setting in the KR4MB preferences:

Key Overlaid Timeout

“This setting controls the maximum length of a keypress that will register as ‘single press.’ It’s easier to understand with an example. The default is 1000ms, which means that if you press and hold the Capslock key for 900ms and release it, it will count as Escape. If you hold it for 1001ms before releasing, it counts as pressing and releasing Control instead.

“If you’re finding that you’re sometimes holding Control out of habit and then releasing it, but it’s still firing as an Escape, you may want to turn this setting down to a lower value. I have mine set to 300ms.”

“DefaultKeyBinding.dict file (~/Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict) for Mac OS X, created by Brett Terpstra and based heavily on work done by Lri. Please note that these bindings won't work in all applications: TextWrangler and TextMate, for example, override these with their own settings. See Lri's gists and website for more coding madness.”

Customize the Cocoa text binding system - Mac OS X Hints
“I just wrote a very detailed article about the Cocoa Text System, covering a whole lot of really cool stuff about how it works. I hope you all enjoy it! Anyway, I thought I'd distill three or four quick hints from the writeup into a general Cocoa text system hint for macosxhints. If any of this is unclear, please hop over to the article, which tries to be as explicit as possible, and explain things from the beginning.”

Non-Conflicting Shortcuts | Sayz Lim
"Remember that Hyper key is dedicated to global shortcuts. They belong to apps that you trigger from everywhere. You should avoid assign Hyper key as the modifier for built-in shortcuts. Here is the list of my favorite global shortcuts:

“Hyper-Space to activate Contexts for Mac to search for all active windows.
Hyper-E to toggle nvALT to create any post ideas.
Hyper-O to append selected text into collection of writing quotes which is the source of Keep Writing macro
Hyper-L to toggle Wren for Mac — a wonderful Twitter client for tweeting.
Hyper-K to run Edit with… Alfred Workflow. It copies and opens the selected text into your favorite text editor."

Text Navigation using string stringers - Macro Library - Keyboard Maestro Discourse
“I created a set of macros triggered by string triggers for navigating documents. I think it’s easier to use string triggers instead of the designated keyboard shortcuts for navigating documents while writing.

“I’m going to write an article about this for my blog, http://macautomationtips.com7, but I would like to get your feedback on the macros. Is there anything you think could be improved or done differently?

“I uploaded the set if you want to try it. Of course you change the settings as you like.l

How to Bypass Navigation Quick Keys
"In order for JAWS to know what keys are being used by the web site, web page authors must include a line containing the key assignments as part of an HTML element where the keystrokes are intended to work. For instance, if you use a <div> tag to hold the main content of the page and the keystrokes are meant to work anywhere on the page, you would do something like the following:

<div data-at-shortcutkeys = {‘j’: ‘Key to navigate to next post’, ‘q’: ‘Key to place focus in chat'}>

"No matter where JAWS is focused on the page, the web site keys will work since they are attached to the main <div> tag.

"Alternatively, if you had a section of the page reserved for sending and receiving chat messages, you might have certain keystrokes that only work in the chat area. In this case, you would attach the "data-at-shortcut keys" attribute and associated keystrokes to the <div> tag used to designate the chat section. These keys will now only work when JAWS focus is in the chat area.

"In JAWS 16.0.2136 and later, there is now a setting called "Allow Web Application Reserved Keystrokes" that you can configure through Settings Center or Quick Settings. When enabled, pressing any key that is both a JAWS command and defined by the web site as a keystroke, will perform the web site specific function instead of the JAWS command. If this option is off, all JAWS keystrokes are processed normally unless INSERT+F3 is pressed first to pass a keystroke through to the application."
