F.lux for biphasic sleep? (f.lux forum)
“People have taken their intuition about what light is doing (and how it works) and called it science, but there is real science about it, and if you’re interested I do love to try to explain it.

“There is a difference between ‘light wakes me up’ which we call the ‘alerting effects of light’ and healthy circadian entrainment, which is much more about the pattern of light and dark throughout 24 hours. The second thing is harder to ‘feel’ but it is probably more important for overall health.

“People seem to ‘get’ the alerting effects (you can feel that bright light wakes you up), but with f.lux, we are concerned that modern society is basically ignoring the latter, and using light like caffeine at all hours. By seeing light late into the nighttime hours, they’re squashing an important rhythm in the body that drives the timing of every system, so it matters for immunity, insulin resistance, heart health, etc. And of course, sleep also suffers when the circadian system is misaligned.”

Has anyone bought the Sleepscore Max? : SleepApnea
“Since Sleepscore and S+ both use the same form of detection - Resmed acquiring them was probably to take out a direct competitor or because the Sleepscore algorithm is better. Resmed (being one of the big 2 sleep apnea machine companies) must have been planning to use this as a sleep apnea detector that would then drive their CPAP / MPAP machine business - so why isn’t there a specific part of the software for this. Monitoring periods of say 20 seconds when someone doesn’t breath at all should be easy for a device like this.”

Supplements/Vitamins for Restless Leg Syndrome | ConsumerLab.com
“People with deficient or low blood levels of iron are also more likely to experience RLS. As discussed in more detail in the ‘What It Does’ section of the Iron Supplements Review, a study found that taking a combination of high-dose iron and vitamin C (which helps to increase iron absorption) can decrease symptom severity in people whose blood levels of iron are low. However, it’s important to consult your physician before supplementing with iron for RLS.

“As discussed in the ‘What It Does’ section of the Magnesium Supplements Review, a preliminary study suggested that taking magnesium in the evening could be helpful for RLS; however, there have not been large, well-controlled studies investigating this treatment.

“Similarly, as discussed in the ‘What It Does’ section of the Potassium Supplements Review, one preliminary study suggested that potassium may help reduce the severity of RLS symptoms, but no well-controlled studies have been conducted to prove this.

“As discussed in our Encyclopedia article about Restless Legs Syndrome, there is very preliminary evidence that folate and vitamin E might be helpful.”

(On treating restless-leg syndrome with iron—)
“A recent study has shown that giving oral iron more than once a day or at a dose greater than 85 mg per day does not necessary lead to a greater increase in absorbable iron. Oral iron equivalent to 65-85 mg of elemental iron will be best absorbed if given once a day.  It should NOT be given with solid or liquid food/dietary supplements or with milk.  It should be given on an empty stomach an hour before eating or two hours after eating along with 100-200 mg of vitamin C.”

Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) - HelpGuide.org
“Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterized by uncomfortable leg sensations that can interfere with resting or falling asleep. Experts believe that low levels of iron in the brain may be responsible for RLS.”

“A number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies are linked to restless legs syndrome.

“Iron. Iron deficiency (anemia) is a well-known cause of RLS, so ask your doctor to test you for anemia. However, supplementing with iron can also improve RLS symptoms in those who aren’t anemic.

“Magnesium. Magnesium can improve sleep and some studies have shown it to be beneficial for restless legs. Try experimenting with a magnesium supplement (250 to 500 mg) at bedtime to see if your symptoms improve.

“Vitamin D. Recent studies show that RLS symptoms are more frequent and more severe in people with vitamin D deficiency. Your doctor can easily test your vitamin D levels or you can simply make it a point to get out more in the sun.

“Folate (folic acid). Folate deficiency has been linked to RLS, which may explain why restless legs are so common in pregnant women (folate plays a key role in healthy fetal development). When folic acid is low, B12 is often low as well, so you may want to try supplementing with a B-complex vitamin.”

“Try sleeping with a pillow between your legs. It may prevent nerves in your legs from compressing and result in fewer nighttime RLS symptoms.”

The Best Sleep-Tracking App for 2018: Reviews by Wirecutter | A New York Times Company
“Per the recommendations of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, SleepScore is one of the few companies that validates its results in articles that are readily available on its website. 7 Tips to Shift Your Sleep Schedule
“The best way to successfully shift your sleep cycle is to do it gradually, in 15-minute increments, according to Silberman. If you have less time to prepare for your new schedule, try 30 minutes, she said. (But no more than that.)

“Give yourself at least three or four nights to get comfortable with the new schedule. If it’s going well, on the fourth or fifth night, shave off another 15 minutes.

“Keep in mind that feeling groggy when you get up is normal. As Silberman said, ‘Most people don’t wake up full of energy.’ So expect that you’ll feel sleepy for about 20 to 30 minutes.”

Yes, Your Sleep Schedule Is Making You Sick - NYTimes.com
"Researchers have developed a limited form of sleep deprivation that is euphemistically called wake therapy. It has been shown to have sustained antidepressant benefit in patients with bipolar disorder and major depression. The idea is to get up for the day halfway through the usual sleep period, which shifts the circadian clock to an earlier time. It’s thought that this works by realigning the sleep cycle with other circadian rhythms, like changes in levels of body temperature and the stress hormone cortisol, that are also out of sync with each other in depression.

"Studies show that it is possible to make wake therapy even more powerful by incorporating two additional interventions: early morning light therapy and what’s called sleep phase advance, in which the patient goes to bed about five to six hours earlier than usual and sleeps for about seven hours. This combination of treatments is called triple chronotherapy, and the typical course involves one night of complete sleep deprivation followed by three nights of phase-advanced sleep and early morning light."
