Five Strategies for Slaying the Data Puking Dragon.
"The point is, if performance is in the territory you expect, how important is it to tell our leaders: The performance is as it always is.

Look for the outliers, deeply analyze the causal factors that lead to them, and take that to the executives. They will give you a giant hug (and more importantly, a raise)."

Glen Raven Meets Their Goals Through a Successful Deployment of Advanced Planning - by @lcecere
" Avoid the temptation to model everything. The key to success is to keep the modeling simple (understandable) with a focus on what matters in the business. I think one of the success factors of the project was making sure that the critical elements of the business were modeled, but that we did not boil the ocean and make it overly complex. I wanted to stay true to the project goals."

Smarter Career Choices #3: Solve for the Global Maxima!
"series correlations would have been a great start right after the first week of the contract. How many people are visiting the Surface website on Sundays? Is that materially significant compared to weeks prior or weeks where there were not as many games? Was there an improvement on Sundays in digital sales? How about retail sales on Mondays?"

IBM makes 20 qubit quantum computing machine available as a cloud service - by @ron_miller
"IBM has been offering quantum computing as a cloud service since last year when it came out with a 5 qubit version of the advanced computers. Today, the company announced that it’s releasing 20-qubit quantum computers, quite a leap in just 18 months. A qubit is a single unit of quantum information"

Sticky Robo-Bees Could Help Artificially Pollinate Plants As Bees Die Off
"Created by researchers over from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan, this pollinating robot uses a readily available $100 plastic drone with four propellers. On the underside of the device is a small patch of horsehair, which allows this rob0-bee to gingerly picking up pollen from a plant, using a sticky ionic liquid gel that been spread on the hair. The idea is to mimic how pollen gets stuck on the bodies of insects when they visit flowering plants, which is then transported to cross-pollinate the next plant."

Five Trends That Excite Me! - by @lcecere #scm
"My recommendation is for companies to stabilize their ERP spending and divert the funds into cognitive learning and artificial intelligence pilots. I think these solutions will fill in the current gaps in master data management and will be the basis of the next generation of supply chain planning. The future is autonomous planning. Today there are three primary providers: Enterra Solutions, IBM, and RuleX, but look for more competitors in this space in the near future."

S&OP: A Tough Nut to Crack - by @lcecere
"Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) is over thirty years old. I have been studying it as a researcher for fifteen years. With the rise of the global multi-national, S&OP increased in importance as a way to align and drive organizational balance. In parallel, as shown in the attached infographic, challenges to do it well increased.

Companies struggle to do it well."
