Demand-Driven Transformation at Shell
"Nick strongly believes that it is insufficient to drive supply chain improvement through incrementalism. His take? It is just not enough to do a software upgrade or slowly push continuous improvement projects. Our Walk In The Fog
"1) Demand Sensing. Despite a 2-3X increase in demand latency, there is still a strong belief that the order represents market demand. It does not. Companies talk about customer-centric supply chains, but most leaders are more comfortable in the world of supply than demand. While there is much hype on DDMRP and the use of orders as a proxy for demand, companies need to remember that orders carry latency: they are out-of-step with market purchase behavior. The further back in the supply chain that companies find themselves, the greater the order latency, the less that the order reflects market behaviors."

What Value Are You Getting From Planning?
"Why should you care? Today market turbulence abounds. Spiraling transportation costs, tariff shifts and increased expectations for customer service sparks new interest in supply chain planning. Operations complexity coupled with the rise in demand volatility increases corporate risk. (Reference Figure 1. The larger the bubble, the greater the risk.)

Outsourcing–procurement, manufacturing and transportation– decreased visibility and increased data latency. As a result, we introduced black holes into the supply chain. Additionally the move from regional to global supply chain management decreased visibility. Yet, companies continued to invest primarily in ERP systems."

Yowza! A Nine-Step Decision Process to Help Guide Supply Chain Planning Selection
"A business decision for supply chain planning should focus on the selection of the technology that can drive better business outcomes. I often tell clients, “What good is a cheap solution if it does not solve the business problem?” A focus on IT standardization is one of the primary reason for low business user satisfaction in the recent study shown in Figure 5."

How Supply Chain Lost Its Mojo
"Bad Conferences on Steroids. With the pink ghetto marketing organization focused on leads and placement of speakers, there is a strong investment in “conference sponsorships.” In England, we have a plethora of event organizers that roll out many questionable events largely funded by technology companies. There is no vetting of presenters."

My Take: The Role of Anaplan in Defining the Art of the Possible in Supply Chain Planning
"The pace of technology change is faster than business user adoption. The first step is education. The second is action. In my travels, I see companies stuck in a quagmire of arguments focused on the standardization on yesterday’s technologies versus the adoption of new approaches. In embracing the art of the possible, companies struggle. Many companies make the mistake that yesterday’s technologists–JDA, Logility, Oracle, SAP– are good business development partners to define the “art of the possible.” (On a side note, during my fifteen years as an analyst, I have never seen co-development with large established technologists be successful.) The internal dissonance within the manufacturing organization is deadly."

"BLD Brands needed a new cloud ERP platform. Live at the Acumatica Summit 2018 in Nashville, their new CEO told me how he did it - including vendor evaluation, impressing auditors, and why crawl -> walk -> run makes sense for ERP."

A Framework for Supply Chain Leaders to Understand Supply Chain Analytics - by @lcecere
"While blockchain and cognitive computing are believed to be the most disruptive within five years, less than 7% of companies are actively testing these technologies today. While immature, the two together offer great promise. We continue to push the envelope to help companies test these technologies through the share group for the network of networks. The next session is at the GS1 Headquarters in Chicago on April 4th-5th. Let me know if you are interested in joining the discussion and learning more."

Glen Raven Meets Their Goals Through a Successful Deployment of Advanced Planning - by @lcecere
" Avoid the temptation to model everything. The key to success is to keep the modeling simple (understandable) with a focus on what matters in the business. I think one of the success factors of the project was making sure that the critical elements of the business were modeled, but that we did not boil the ocean and make it overly complex. I wanted to stay true to the project goals."

Kenandy Customers Find a New Home With Rootstock - by @erp_cindyjutras
"So, given the similarities between the two, this begs the ultimate question regarding products moving forward: Will the resulting combined company continue to develop, maintain and support two distinct products? And should it? Mr. Garrehy has already made it clear that the Kenandy product will live on, and has further speculated that the combined company will likely have two distinct product lines, serving at least somewhat different markets. While not cast in stone, perhaps the Kenandy ERP will move in the direction of light manufacturing and distribution, while the Rootstock product will support heavy-duty, more complex manufacturing."
