Federacy wants to put bug bounty programs in reach of every startup
"“We think that we can make the biggest impact by making the platform free to set up and incredibly simple for even the most resource-strapped startup to extract value. In doing so, we want to expand bug bounties from probably a few hundred companies currently — across Bugcrowd, HackerOne, etc. — to a million or more in the long run,” William Sulinski told TechCrunch."

Box opens up about the company’s approach to innovation
"Patel strongly believes that the quality of the problem is directly proportional to the outcome of the project. Part of that is solving a real customer pain point, but it’s also about challenging your engineers. You can be successfully solving the low-hanging fruit problems most of the time, but then you don’t necessarily attract the highest quality engineering talent."

Serverless computing could unleash a new startup ecosystem
"The thing about abstraction is that it simplifies operations on one level, but it also creates a new set of requirements, some expected and some that might surprise as a new way of programming scales. This lack of tooling could potentially hinder the development, but more often than not when necessity calls, it can stimulate the development of a new set of instrumentation."

Adobe CTO leads company’s broad AI bet
"It’s actually a classic software platform play, whether the service involves AI or not. Every cloud company from Box to Salesforce has been exposing their services for years, letting developers take advantage of their expertise so they can concentrate on their core knowledge. They don’t have to worry about building something like storage or security from scratch because they can grab those features from a platform that has built-in expertise and provides a way to easily incorporate it into applications.

The difference here is that it involves Adobe’s core functions, so it may be intelligent auto cropping and smart tagging in Adobe Experience Manager or AI-fueled visual stock search in Creative Cloud. These are features that are essential to the Adobe software experience, which the company is packaging as an API and delivering to developers to use in their own software."

As Kubernetes grows, a startup ecosystem develops in its wake
"When you have those two ingredients in place — developers and large vendors — you can begin to gain velocity. As more companies and more developers come, the community continues to grow, and that’s what we’ve been seeing with Kubernetes."

Kubernetes stands at an important inflection point
"One thing everyone seemed to recognize at KubeCon was that in spite of the head start and early successes, there remains much work to be done, many issues to resolve. The companies using it today mostly still fall under the early adopter moniker. This remains true even though there are some full blown enterprise implementations like CERN, the European physics organization, which has spun up 210 Kubernetes clusters or JD.com, the Chinese Internet shopping giant, which has 20K servers running Kubernetes with the largest cluster consisting of over 5000 servers. Still, it’s fair to say that most companies aren’t that far along yet."

Event Report - Pivotal SpringOne 2017 - It’s all about PCF – and some Spring - by @holgermu
"On the concern side, while it was almost refreshing not to hear a mention of Machine Learning / AI at a conference in 2017, it still means that Pivotal will have to give its customers and users a solution in this important space. But fair enough, serverless first. Equally the BigData / Hadoop relationship is not mended with the leading vendors, giving Pivotal’ s database history… but better to fix this sooner than later… and the only IaaS hold outs really have been AWS and Oracle… but it is likely that Pivotal is out to get those players in 2018."

Apple’s enterprise strategy begins to take shape - by @ron_miller
" When Apple announced its partnership with GE this week, it would have been easy to dismiss it as another random collaboration from a company people don’t generally associate with the enterprise. After all, Apple killed off their enterprise server product years ago. You might rightly ask, what exactly do they have to do with the enterprise these days?"

On ABAP in the Cloud - by @wombling

Seven moves that led to the VMware-Pivotal-Google partnership - by @ron_miller
"When VMware, Pivotal and Google announced a containerization partnership this morning at VMworld, it sounded more like the introduction to a joke — Google, VMware and Pivotal walked into a bar… But in fact, it’s probably not a coincidence that these three companies have joined together."

Thoughts on SAP HANA Express - by @grahamrobbo
"Let us assume that the Cloud Foundry version of HCP is in place - now I wonder if I will be able to build & test my applications on HANA-X and then deploy them to HCP. In simple cases I am sure the answer is "yes" - but for more complex applications I am not so sure."

The advent of the citizen developer - by @dhinchcliffe
"It's taken decades, but it now appears that new forms of real -- albeit simplified -- software development can be carried out by almost anyone with only a little technical know-how. This is unleashing a new generation of business coder, along with a matching wave of grassroots apps that solve long-neglected problems in the enterprise."

Herding cats, or managing GitHub issues – Waffle and HuBoard considered - by @wombling
"Today I needed to decide on a tool to use to manage GitHub issues. I’ve got so many of these now-a-days that it has become quite hard to decide which one to work on and also to communicate to others which ones I am working on.

So I turned to some of the simple Kanban board visualisations of GitHub issue tools that I’ve seen. There may well have been others (I’m pretty sure that it’s possible to get Trello to work with GitHub) but I wanted something that was simple."
