Integrating Different Perspectives
"But isn’t there a risk here? We also see challenges achieving consensus and managing through different objectives. Broad involvement could also derail projects, right?

But I think it can be managed. It requires, first and foremost, clear goals and objectives for the project to be declared and shared. These should be cast in “soft” stone–only to be revisited if significant business change has occurred."

The Power of Alternative Perspectives
"And yet, it’s easy to ignore. For example, the recognition of the value of diversity continues to grow–but can we quantify the impact? And do we integrate it into our processes? Maybe we make a focused effort to hire more women, or more minorities, or more experienced (older) people, or veterans–but what next? Embracing diversity is a mindset. But do you take the next step and integrate diversity into your practices (for example, making sure that review, brainstorming, and team efforts always include diverse participants? Do you look at how your technology (or if you even have technology) that helps make this easier to do–and to prove the value of? Do you ever invite people from other departments to product meetings?"

What Role Should Colleges Play in Workplace Training?
"Data doesn’t support this either, according to a recent article in The Street. “When it comes to middle-skills jobs, Fuller found no difference in performance among people with and without a college degree. Yet employers still look for people with college degrees, who only make up about one-third of the entire workforce.” Fuller explains it with a fishing metaphor. “When you start up-credentialing your jobs you’re doing the equivalent of rowing your boat over to this tightly crowded part of the pond. Maybe there are fish elsewhere.”

Tech Ageism and the Myth of the ‘Digital Native’
"It turns out that older employees are not discriminated against once they are hired. Exceptions exist, of course, but the data shows that after 40, non-manager tech workers enter the “Tech Sage Age” (a term coined by Visier). Visier found workers in the Tech Sage Age are increasingly likely to receive top performance ratings. This is not true in non-tech industries, said Weisbeck, where older workers find their performance ratings decline."

How Non-Disparagement Clauses Hide Toxic Workplace Culture
"Ehmke’s experience is not unique, but no one hears these stories because non-disparage clauses are rampant in the tech industry. They are essentially hush money.

It’s one reason that so many people were unaware of the rampant sexism exposed by ex-Uber engineer Susan Fowler earlier this year and popping up since across the industry. The Hidden Biases that Can Lurk in Artificial Intelligence Systems
"Artificial intelligence and “automated decision-making” systems are being implemented in many crucial real-world settings, cutting humans out of the decisions that these systems are making. But how sure are we that the decisions they arrive at are fundamentally correct?

Researchers are finding a startling number cases of human bias that have crept into AI models and decision-making algorithms, which in turn can unwittingly lead to discriminatory practices on the part of companies and governments deploying these systems."
