Outward-Facing Corporate Culture
"In Tech, the most scarce and valuable input is talented people. Attracting and retaining these talented people is harder than any other industry except perhaps Finance, but in Tech compensation is driven by the long term incentive alignment of stock options. Ownership. As software is eating the world, and software is made of people, the effective norms for talent will extend from and beyond Tech.

The Google Walkout and other visible Tech employee activism are a cultural revolution against inward-facing corporate cultures that failed them. The employees-as-stakeholder had bought into Google’s Don’t Be Evil values that were part of it’s founding. But this value was astonishingly repealed. In Google’s case employees revolted against creating products that were being sold for evil."

"On the concern side, it is now for ADP to show that it not only can build very good and visionary products, but also sell them into the market – to both prospects and the install base. This is always the 2nd step after building product, and with an industry mostly building product (e.g. payroll), ADP is in the lead in terms of maturity and now needs to convert that lead into customers and revenue. ADP will also have to ramp up its partner efforts and move from its largely inhouse implementation to a partner driven model. This allows ADP to keep focusing investment into products."

Event Report - Ultimate UltiConnect - More mobile, more Zander and a new tech stack
"On the concern side, Ultimate needs to find the development speed to move all its offerings to a consistent UX. The ‘gamble’ of a mobile only approach may work out, but the next year will have to show if Ultimate can extend the mobile capabilities beyond employee, manager and (some) HR admin capabilities, of will have to go back to fundamental renovation / innovation of the browser UX. A leaner architecture is key, and we will see if Ultimate has the discipline to deliver towards that. That will make it easier to run in hybrid mode, though we would like a vendor not to spend on inhouse data center re-freshs in 2019."

"On the concern side, Kronos needs to accelerate on the AI side, it is relatively late with Aimee and it needs to come up with a voice driven UI, which is key for end users. That is all not too far away for Kronos, but it needs to happen. Moving from Workforce Management to HCM means that vendors cannot hide under the complexity and compliance blanket but must show some style and appeal to motivate users… and we are not even talking Talent Management here. Kronos also needs to get their buying center to step up inside the HR buying center, quite a change for the current Kronos supporters."

SAP has been very aggressive over the past 5 years spending over 17 billion on acquiring cloud companies such as SuccessFactors, Ariba, Fieldglass and Concur and is now predicting that cloud and support revenue will overtake software by 2018."
