Sustainability might not be sexy, but life depends on it
"That’s 5 million units a year, all which generate data, and all of which need energy and resources in their creation. Chris suggests that by 2030 most people will have 15 devices, all generating data because “everything computes at the edge and everywhere”. He’s seen research that suggests we will run out of gold by 2030. Yikes!"

News Analysis - IBM Unveils New Offerings for Faster and More Secured Path to Hybrid Cloud
"Great to have a customer quote right at the beginning… would have been more valuable if the CTO of Aetna would refer to the specific services here. And for the PR aficionados: IBM definitively has a new chief press release editor – customer quotes would always come towards the end in the past – with IBM executive and industry analyst quotes. Good to see the change, all that matters are… customers. "

Four pointers on managing a hybrid IT environment
"If an organization has four cloud deployments, “You should not feel that you need to log into all four different clouds,” Balcha said, so single sign-on is necessary. The less complexity exposed to users, the better. “The single pane of glass should hide all the details and provide you one simple interface.”

Event Report - Microsoft Connect - No April's Fools - Linux, Google and more - by @holgermu
"On the concern side Microsoft still has steps ahead to become an enterprise level PaaS that starts with analysis, design capabilities, does requirement collection, end to end test automation etc. It will be interesting and potentially very powerful to see Visual Studio and Teams come together. I maybe wrong, but it always seems to me that Microsoft is about the developer (nothing wrong with it) and less about the enterprise that needs to build a next generation application."

How Cloud Architects Could Save the IT Department from Disappearing
"Some tech prognosticators go so far as to state the demise of the traditional IT department is at hand. As cloud, mobile, IoT, and other technologies decentralize data and applications, individual business units take the lead role in managing vital corporate data assets. In a piece in Gadget, Barry Cashman discusses the results of a recent study by VCE that examined how the shift to converged infrastructures will transform IT into an extension of individual business units."
