News Analysis - IBM Unveils New Offerings for Faster and More Secured Path to Hybrid Cloud
"Great to have a customer quote right at the beginning… would have been more valuable if the CTO of Aetna would refer to the specific services here. And for the PR aficionados: IBM definitively has a new chief press release editor – customer quotes would always come towards the end in the past – with IBM executive and industry analyst quotes. Good to see the change, all that matters are… customers. "

Why the Cloud Wars Will Be Good for Your Business
"That said, over time, a fractured market benefits no one. Users have to manage the complexity and providers are limited in reach. So we will likely see the pendulum continue to swing as the market ultimately navigates towards an equilibrium point. Of course, when we get to that point, the discussion will shift to supplier management strategies, which will again strengthen the case for a multi-cloud future."

Wal-Mart Kicks Partners Off Amazon’s Cloud: The Implications for Organizations
"As first reported by CNBC on Wednesday, retail and e-commerce giant Wal-Mart notified some of its technology partners that they need to move their information assets away from Amazon Web Services if they want to continue doing business.

This move certainly comes as no surprise to many, as the two companies are long-standing rivals in their respective quests to dominate the world of retail."

On multi-cloud tradeoffs and the paradox of openness - by @monkchips
"Avoid platform specific APIs and calls – an obvious aspect of ensuring application portability across clouds. Easier said than done though in an age of serverless, PaaS, and micro-services, with developers making use of whatever is nearest to hand to solve a problem. The swift adoption of Amazon Lambda shows just how attractive an event-based model for taking advantage of cloud platform services can be, and with great power comes great lock in.I BM sought to create its own Open source serverless model in the shape of OpenWhisk, but serverless is really about managed platform services and as such tends by definition towards lock in. Amazon is the only third party adopter."
