What is Microsoft Doing? - by @sogrady
"Pre-Nadella, Microsoft was outwardly a developer-focused company. But with limited exceptions it was a developer-focused company primarily on Microsoft’s terms, if you were a Microsoft developer. When your executive leadership sees open source as existential threat rather than opportunity, it’s difficult for your developer outreach strategies to not reflect that. Post-Nadella, Microsoft has been widely empowered to be developer-focused – no matter what communities those developers come from, and no matter what technologies they use."

Monday’s Musings: CXOs Seek Enterprise-Grade Mobile Solutions Despite Seven Barriers - by @rwang0
"Constellation’s annual survey of disruptive technologies among leading CXOs consistently places mobile enablement as a top three priority. In the 2016 survey, more than 58 percent of respondents revalidated that mobile enablement was their number one priority. Unfortunately, most CXOs and their organizations often find mobile solutions to lack the enterprise-grade capabilities required to move beyond consumerization."

Facebook: Imperial ambitions: Mark Zuckerberg prepares to fight for dominance of the next era of computing
"The task is to harness data to offer new services and make money in new ways. Facebook’s bet on AI is a recognition that “machine learning”—in which software learns by crunching data, rather than having to be explicitly programmed—is a big part of the answer."

News Analysis - Unit4 announces Business World On – A modern ERP offering - by @holgermu
"MyPOV – Good to see early mention of industry focus, the focus being on four verticals. Vertical functionality comes usually as an afterthought after horizontal releases have been shipped, it’s good to see a welcome change delivering vertical capabilities with the first release of a new software product. We will have to check on the depth of the vertical capability – maybe later in the press release already."

You Want Disruption? Can You Handle it? - by @jeffnolan
"This is why I don’t think about disruption. The great case studies for disruption in our business are all a result of executing really well against an idea that was well conceived and not impaired by compromise. Disruption happens when you don’t have anything to lose, and in every case disruption is the result of bringing together extraordinary people unified by a sense of purpose. Put another way, disruption is not a strategy, it is a consequence."

Musings - Speed matters for HR - how to accelerate - Part I - by @holgermu
"A lot of talk happens on analytics these days, but business users should be aware of very little software that is called ‘analytics’ does true analytics. And with that I refer to either taking an action or make a recommendation (read my blog post here). A chart, visualization, dashboard does not do that, it’s back to the human to make the decision. But confronted with a need to make more decisions in less times, ‘true’ analytics are the solution for business users that have to execute faster."

Book Summary: Lesson 2 From Disrupting Digital Business – Brand Promises In An Attention Economy - by @rwang0
"In fact, the impact is significant and now quantifiable with 52% of the Fortune 500 gone since 2000 and the average age of the S&P 500 company in 1960 is down from 60 years to a little more than 12 projected in 2020. That is a 500% compression that has changed the market landscape forever in almost every industry."
