Why speaking Spanish is becoming dangerous in America | US news | The Guardian
In the last few months, a constant stream of race-related attacks, physical and verbal, have peppered the North American landscape like a feral pest. Last January, a woman was kicked out of a Florida UPS for speaking Spanish, the month prior an adult physically attacked legal South American immigrants – including a child – at a Canadian mall, and a few days ago a border agent in Montana arrested two women for the same thing, leaving them shaking with anger and crying at the unfairness of it all. Then there’s the case of the rich Manhattan lawyer who berated young workers at a deli for daring to communicate in the second most spoken language in the world in his presence.

Spanish Publishers Frustrated By Lack of English Translations
the number of Spanish-language books published in Spain decreased, while the number of English language books translated into Spanish increased. Translations of foreign languages into Spanish (mainly from English) represent about a quarter of all books published in Spain. At present, the Spanish publishing market has seen a 30-40% drop in sales since 2013 with digital sales accounting for only about 2% of industry sales in Spain.

False Friends in Pharma | Signs & Symptoms of Translation
False friends continue to crop up at more advanced stages of language learning and professional translators must be familiar with the ones that are unique to their particular field. I revised a pharmaceutical translation recently and was first amused and later horrified to see the number of false friends that had crept into an unknowing translator’s work

Debunking Language Stereotypes: Spanish | The Lingua File
There are also only five vowel sounds in Spanish. English, depending on how you count vowels and whether you speak American English or British English, can feature nearly twenty vowel phonemes. Imagine how difficult it would be to have to learn almost 15 new vowel sounds in order to speak a new language!

Karl Lagerfeld et Hollande, lost in translation - Libération
Lagerfeld blames interpreter for Hollande 'insult.'
En fait il trouve Hollande "drôle, spirituel et très très intelligent," même s'il manque un peu de respect pour les métiers de luxe: «c’est pas ma faute si la France est connue pour les vins, la cuisine très luxueuse, la mode, les parfums et les bijoux», a-t-il dit.

Medical Translation
A wise grey head of medical translation reflects on his metier: interesting that, though Spanish, his basic medical dictionary of reference is an English French edition (Gladstone's)
