A Quick Puzzle to Test Your Problem Solving - The New York Times
As you seem to have guessed, the answer was extremely basic. The rule was simply: Each number must be larger than the one before it. 5, 10, 20 satisfies the rule, as does 1, 2, 3 and -17, 14.6, 845. Children in kindergarten can understand this rule.

But most people start off with the incorrect assumption that if we’re asking them to solve a problem, it must be a somewhat tricky problem. They come up with a theory for what the answer is, like: Each number is double the previous number. And then they make a classic psychological mistake.

They don’t want to hear the answer “no.” In fact, it may not occur to them to ask a question that may yield a no.

Remarkably, 77 percent of people who have played this game so far have guessed the answer without first hearing a single no. A mere 9 percent heard at least three nos — even though there is no penalty or cost for being told no, save the small disappointment that every human being feels when hearing “no.”

It’s a lot more pleasant to hear “yes.” That, in a nutshell, is why so many people struggle with this problem.

One of the best-selling business books in history — about negotiation strategy — is “Getting to Yes.” But the more important advice for us may instead be to go out of our way to get to no. When you want to test a theory, don’t just look for examples that prove it. When you’re considering a plan, think in detail about how it might go wrong.

Apollo 12 Was Struck by Lightning During Launch | RealClearScience
Luckily, swift thinking came from 24-year-old environmental control engineer, John Aaron. Remembering that there was an obscure, almost never used switch in the command module that would put the systems on an auxiliary setting, he recommended to flight director Gerry Griffin, "Switch SCE to AUX."

I have the best users.... : sysadmin
We're 47 1/2 hours into a system wide network outage that took down all of our storage and by extension our VMWare infrastructure. We're finally on the downside and hope to have mission critical up by Sunday. But various departments have provided a steady stream of support in the form of food & drinks while we work 16 - 20 hours a day to get this back up. Literally they setup a buffet table in a conference room. Sometimes I love my users and my organization.

from the comments:
Someone didn't set SCE to Aux

Sounds like someone forgot to water the spanning tree again

13 million MacKeeper users exposed after MongoDB door was left open | Ars Technica
In total, Vickery said there was about 21GB of data free for everyone to download, stored in MongoDB databases. All the researcher needed to do in order to reveal them was enter a query in Shodan, a search engine that can find pretty much anything connected to the Internet.

So I just watched Snoop Dogg dropping some knowledge on my daughter : sysadmin
My daughter is watching a Netflix show called Storybots, and the question on this episode is how a computer works. Of course, the Storybots go inside and meet the OS, which happens to be Snoop Dog himself. I think he did a great job explaining the CPU, bus, storage, and how the machine processes requests. I'm impressed. And his dance at the end after serving up the human's request for a cat picture lol.

It fits into 32 bits. If 10G is crammed into 32 bits (unsigned), it ends up as 2G

PHP large file uploads - Hacker's ramblings
As found in the net max_input_time and max_execution_time have nothing to do with the network transfer. Both of those limits affect only server's processing after the bytes are transferred.

Set the following two parameters inside the corresponding .ini file:
<code class="language-ini">php_value upload_max_filesize = 16G
php_value post_max_size = 16G

Adjust these values for your needs. If you see PHP timeouts in your logfiles, increase the timeout values, which are in seconds:
<code class="language-ini">php_value max_input_time 3600

Drop Zone movie review & film summary (1994) | Roger Ebert
Logic, that tiresome specter at the feast of fantasy, here raises its skeletal hand and asks a few questions, like (1) Why does the computer whiz need to be in the building to crack the computers? Hasn't he ever heard of a modem? And (2) wouldn't people in central Washington be likely to notice skydivers parachuting into a semi driving down a major street? "Drop Zone" shrugs off those and all other questions as it hurtles to a conclusion.

When Facebook Spread Hate, One Cop Tried Something Unusual - The New York Times
Social media allows anyone, anywhere to spread rumors about his corner of the world. A number of white nationalists, taking a special interest in Bavaria’s culture wars, have done just that. And Mr. Guske is powerless to stop them.

“It’s hard to prevent fake news, because once Facebook pushes it —” he trailed off, shaking his head and slapping his palm on the table. “What more can you do?”

Solved: Isilon Vs ECS - Dell Community
Furthermore Isilon is more a "Filecentric" solution which offers you access to files through different protocols while ECS is "Objectstorage" which offers you acces to objects through several protocols, this said ECS has WORM by design.

Think of ECS in the same way as you may have thought of Centera in the past, a really big archive. It can do more as sluetze said with regards to geo-load balancing and so-forth, and supports the Centera CAS API, and S3. File protocols were added later to ECS initially NFSv3 only, and I think recently SMB as well. But on the big data side it doesn't speak HDFS like Isilon does, and it's not meant to be best of breed performance for really large HDFS datasets. As I understand it the HDFS access is actually over NFS using a java library. So maybe a good spot for cold buckets of data, not hot.
