command line - Running a .desktop file in the terminal - Ask Ubuntu
Workarounds from the relevant bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/378783):
I'm also suffering from this bug, so here's some workarounds I've found on the Internet.

SO suggests the following workarounds:
* gtk-launch foo opens foo.desktop
* exo-open [[path-to-a-desktop-file]...]
* hashbang: #!/usr/bin/env deskopen
* dex foo.desktop

"Launch Dropbox Website" does NOT open in default browser « Dropbox Forums
I just installed Dropbox for Ubuntu (x86 .deb) on my Linux Mint 9 LXDE system. Everything seems to be working OK except for one problem: I have Chromium set up as my default browser, but whenever I select "Launch Dropbox Website" from the tray icon menu, the website opens up in Firefox.

How can I make Dropbox open up the website in my default browser?

Farther down someone asks about the file browser thing, and gets shut down as OT.

xfce - How can I change which file manager dropbox opens with by default? - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange
This post says Nautilus is still hard-coded to use Nautilus, but I have a feeling that's not the case, since it works with Nemo when Nautilus is not installed. Mucking about with xdg-mime as suggested here (https://ask.fedoraproject.org/question/9404/how-to-use-nemo-instead-nautilus-on-fedora-18/). Suggested fix is to create a script called /bin/nautilus with the contents:
#!/bin/bash
exec thunar ~/Dropbox
exit 0

It seems like there should be a better way, though.

Introducing Nemo : Cinnamon
Edit by Clem: It’s removable in Nemo as well (although I personally wouldn’t live without it) :)

Meet 'Files,' the Latest elementary App | elementary
Gloobus was considered and we ended up dropping it because it's just a workaround for application statup time which we intend to fix directly, and its feature of supporting a lot of formats in one UI so one can quickly preview files of different types in one folder is brough to naught by the fact that previous/next actions do not sync with sort mode set in file manager.
