Ashton Kutcher in a Biopic About Steve Jobs - The New York Times
A film review on Friday about “Jobs,” a biography of Steve Jobs that the review said has “all the sex appeal of a PowerPoint presentation,” referred imprecisely to PowerPoint. It was created by Forethought as Presenter and later renamed PowerPoint, and was acquired by Microsoft in 1987. It was not originally developed by Microsoft.

Drop Zone movie review & film summary (1994) | Roger Ebert
Logic, that tiresome specter at the feast of fantasy, here raises its skeletal hand and asks a few questions, like (1) Why does the computer whiz need to be in the building to crack the computers? Hasn't he ever heard of a modem? And (2) wouldn't people in central Washington be likely to notice skydivers parachuting into a semi driving down a major street? "Drop Zone" shrugs off those and all other questions as it hurtles to a conclusion.

Does anyone know this quote? "You can't avoid pain by fencing yourself off" keep reading for the rest of it? | Yahoo Answers
Also in Zayaz's "People Want To Be Needed," which I heard on's Synthwave channel.
Does anyone know this quote? "You can't avoid pain by fencing yourself off" keep reading for the rest of it?

'You can't avoid pain by fencing yourself off... Sometimes you need the help of other people more than anything else... People want to be needed... I've been through it myself... I know...'

This is from the year 2000 or so. It was used in a very popular trance track by Auranaut. The song is called People Want To Be Needed. Listen to this track on youtube and see if you can recognize the voice or quote. I think it is from a movie?! Thanks for any help!

From the comments:
I think it's called Sink The Bismarck.

Biggest use of 'Tremendous' you've ever seen, tremendous, tremendous tremendousness. People are saying yuge, yuge use of tremendous, trust me, bigly.

Oh boy! So they kidnapped the warden's wife. does she get raped? If she gets raped, how many times does she get raped? She has to at least get stripped naked. Oh boy, stripped at least! If she doesn't get raped, who does? Someone has to get raped, this IS a Rob Zombie movie! Raped and then like, stabbed 50 times or maybe run over by a truck! Oh boy this is going to be awesome! HARDCOOOOREE!

We actually tried Free Will before. After taking you from hunting and gathering to the height of the Roman Empire we stepped back to see how you'd do on your own. You gave us the Dark Ages for five centuries... until finally we decided we should come back in.

Us - Vern's Reviews on the Films of Cinema Vern's Reviews on the Films of Cinema
Great observations all around. Nyong’o is getting all the buzz, but props to Winston Duke, who excels at playing both lovable goof and menacing as hell. That twisted up scowl his tethered sports is like early Ice Cube walking into a poorly maintained truckstop restroom. That’s a compliment.

2001: A Space Odyssey (film) - Wikipedia |
Discover's blogger Stephen Cass, discussing the film's considerable impact on subsequent science fiction, writes that "the balletic spacecraft scenes set to sweeping classical music, the tarantula-soft tones of HAL 9000, and the ultimate alien artifact, the Monolith, have all become enduring cultural icons in their own right."

Twin Peaks Star on His Mysterious Character and That Thrilling Finale | IndieWire
“He has that sort of gift that not a lot of directors have where he can say one thing that can just change your performance. He doesn’t say a lot, but what he says it makes it exciting to play,” Middleton said. “It’s just as you can imagine, he’s very imaginative. But he doesn’t overtalk things, but he’s folksy, he’s relaxed, he’s fun to talk to. I love talking to David and hanging out with David between setups, and it’s fun to watch him work in the room and watch him create… You don’t feel like you’re in a traditional television corporate setting where everything is running like a machine. It just feels like a bunch of friends got together cooking something up. It just has that really powerful creative vibe about it.”

Vangelis - Blade Runner Soundtrack (Remastered 2017) - YouTube |
This seems to be a fan edit, with lots more dialog from the film.

From the comments:
Good point someone said below. This soundtrack does NOT "age." It's now a 35 year old soundtrack. To put that in perspective: In 1982 (when BladeRunner was released) , were you listening to soundtracks from 1947 (35 years before 1982) ? I'm guessing not.

Basil Poledouris' Conan soundtracks. Wojciech Kilar's Bram Stoker's Dracula. Elliot Goldenthal's Alien 3. Cliff Martinez's Solaris. Hans Zimmer's Interstellar. M83's Oblivion. Some of my favorite film scores ever.

Vangelis' Blade Runner tops them all. Timeless and absolutely brilliant.

Gattaca - Wikipedia |
Political references:

U.S. Senator Rand Paul used near-verbatim portions of the plot summary from the English Wikipedia entry on Gattaca in a speech at Liberty University on October 28, 2013 in support of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's campaign for Governor of Virginia. Paul accused pro-choice politicians of advocating eugenics in a manner similar to the events in Gattaca.

Haunted heroines: women are taking the lead in horror films | Film | The Guardian
Horror movies, like all movies, come in a variety of styles, from teen slashers like Halloween, Scream and Sorority Row, to gore-free psychological chillers like Les Diaboliques, The Haunting, Rosemary’s Baby, The Others, and The Ring. What all the films I’ve listed do have in common, however, is their central female protagonists. What’s more, they all pass the Bechdel Test.

Munich (film) - Wikipedia
Chicago Tribune reviewer Allison Benedikt calls Munich a "competent thriller", but laments that as an "intellectual pursuit, it is little more than a pretty prism through which superficial Jewish guilt and generalized Palestinian nationalism" are made to "... look like the product of serious soul-searching." Benedikt states that Spielberg's treatment of the film's "dense and complicated" subject matter can be summed up as "Palestinians want a homeland, Israelis have to protect theirs." She rhetorically asks: "Do we need another handsome, well-assembled, entertaining movie to prove that we all bleed red?"[13]

Murder in virtual reality should be illegal | Aeon Ideas
It’s a small step from here to truly inhabiting the body of another person in VR. But the consequences of such complete identification are unknown, as the German philosopher Thomas Metzinger has warned. There is the risk that virtual embodiment could bring on psychosis in those who are vulnerable to it, or create a sense of alienation from their real bodies when they return to them after a long absence. People in virtual environments tend to conform to the expectations of their avatar, Metzinger says. A study by Stanford researchers in 2007 dubbed this ‘the Proteus effect’: they found that people who had more attractive virtual characters were more willing to be intimate with other people, while those assigned taller avatars were more confident and aggressive in negotiations. There’s a risk that this behaviour, developed in the virtual realm, could bleed over into the real one.

When it comes to interracial romances, the movies need to catch up | Film | The Guardian
You could look at this situation in a number of ways. The first is that women of colour are being cast as aliens by an unthinking industry that still equates “not white” with “exotic”. That theory holds water with a movie such as Avatar, where the other blue-skinned aliens were also played by not-white actors: Wes Studi (Native American), CCH Pounder and Laz Alonso (both African-American). Or could it be that, in the 21st-century moviescape, there’s still some problem with black women of reproductive age? Especially if they’re getting together with white men? Is that what’s this is really about?
