github - How can I determine the URL that a local Git repository was originally cloned from? - Stack Overflow |
Newer gits also have 'git remote get-url'.
If you want only the remote URL, or if your are not connected to a network that can reach the remote repo:
<code class="language-bash">
git config --get remote.origin.url
If you require full output and you are on a network that can reach the remote repo where the origin resides :
<code class="language-bash">
git remote show origin

How do I change the remote a git branch is tracking? - Stack Overflow
Without deleting anything, using git v1.8.0 or later:
git branch branch_name --set-upstream-to your_new_remote/branch_name

Or you can use the -u switch:
git branch branch_name -u your_new_remote/branch_name

Using git up to v1.7.12:
git branch --set-upstream branch_name your_new_remote/branch_name

version control - How do I push amended commit to the remote git repo? - Stack Overflow
The solution, of course, is 'git push -f <remote> <branch>'. This poster's advice seems interesting, though.
I actually once pushed with --force to git.git repository and got scolded by Linus BIG TIME. It will create a lot of problems for other people. A simple answer is "don't do it".

I see others gave the recipe for doing so anyway, so I won't repeat them here, but here is a tip to recover from the situation after you have pushed out the amended commit with --force (or +master).

First, you find the old commit that you amended (call it old, and we'll call the new commit you created by amending new).
Then create a merge between old and new, recording the tree of new, like git checkout new && git merge -s ours old.
Merge that to your master with git merge master
Update your master with the result with git push . HEAD:master
Then push the result out.

git ready » push and delete remote branches
<code class="language-bash">git push origin :newfeature</code>

From the 'git-push' manual page:
All listed refs are deleted from the remote repository. This is the same as prefixing all refs with a colon.
