Users - max file size problem
It fits into 32 bits. If 10G is crammed into 32 bits (unsigned), it ends up as 2G

How to possibly fix a PC that will turn on but will not beep and will not display anything on screen - YouTube
Do what the video shows: Disconnect the power cable, remove the CMOS battery, short the CMOS jumper pins for 9 seconds then return the jumper cap to its initial position (only if you can find these jumper pins; if not, skip this step), press your PC's chassis power button switch (to discharge any remaining power circulating in the system), leave the PC unplugged and in this state overnight, then the next day return the CMOS battery to its socket, power up the PC, and if no beep, then disconnect the power cable, press your PC's chassis power button switch (to discharge any remaining power circulating in the system), remove one component, power up the PC, and if no beep then repeat (each time unplugging the PC, pressing the power switch to discharge remaining power, removing a remaining component, and then powering up, and this until the PC beeps at boot). If it never beeps, even when you are down to just motherboard, power supply & CPU+fan, one of these remaining components may be bad

Bash causes high CPU - Apple Community
My 'bash -l' that was consistently using ~30% CPU and running the fan up was a sub-process of MacVim, which made me worry about an exploit of the modeline bug. But I was running an up-to-date version of MacVim, so it was a persistent problem, since before that CVE was released. Dunno.

It didn't have any interesting files or ports open, and just seemed to be recursing endlessly, so I just killed it... and all is well again?

gron - Make JSON greppable!

gron transforms JSON into discrete assignments to make it easier to grep for what you want and see the absolute 'path' to it. It eases the exploration of APIs that return large blobs of JSON but have terrible documentation.

CalendarAgent process is out of control -… - Apple Community |
Yeah, no, this didn't work. I did that, and the CalendarAgent still hogs a CPU and spins the fan up to max. Disabling the Google Calendar accounts might be the only solution.
I was able to get this to stop. Go to:

* System Preferences
* Notifications

Click the "Calendar" entry on the left. Un-Check everything on the right. The entry moves to the bottom (or below the line). After that, my CPU went straight down to a normal percentage, system temp dropped, etc.

perlmodinstall - |
If you don't see an error message, you have the module. (If you do see an error message, it's still possible you have the module, but that it's not in your path, which you can display with perl -e "print qq(@INC)" .) For the remainder of this document, we'll assume that you really honestly truly lack an installed module, but have found it on the CPAN.

Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) is great, but may not work as expected
The real solution is, thus, to optionally disable probing of the monitor and to directly feed appropriate monitor data into the kernel. For this purpose, the kernel configuration item CONFIG_DRM_LOAD_EDID_FIRMWARE was introduced. If enabled, the drm_kms_helper module will accept the parameter edid_firmware=, search for the given file in the /lib/firmware directory and use its data, if valid, to initialize the monitor timings of the graphics adapter as if it had been received from the monitor. Four standard timings are hard-coded in the driver and available immediately:

1024x768/60 Hz

1280x1024/60 Hz

1680x1050/60 Hz

1920x1080/60 Hz

To force, for example, a screen resolution of 1280x1024/60 Hz, simply remove nomodeset from, add drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1280x1024.bin to the kernel command, and enjoy a much faster screen and all the eye candy you missed so long.

EDID and HowTo make one
The key part below is that there is no corresponding file in /lib/firmware for these built-in modes.
KMS requires an EDID, and while you can override the EDID in org.conf, the plan is to get X11 away from the hardware and that will stop working. It is possible to override the EDID at the kernel level though. To do so, be sure CONFIG_DRM_LOAD_EDID_FIRMWARE is selected and passing drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware= one of the following 5 special parameters on the kernel command line, corresponding to the desired resolution:

Note that these values are hardcoded in the driver, there is no corresponding /lib/firmware file (although if it exists it will override the built-in ones)

It is possible to create custom EDID if needed: see Documentation/EDID/HOWTO.txt in the kernel sources for the details.

Most recent check for updates has an old date that never changes, not - Microsoft Community
These instructions might not apply to Windows 7; some of the support articles linked were for XP.

This guy pretty much sums it up:

None of the solutions shown here work. At best you end up with "Most recent check for updates" and "Updates were installed" both reset to "NEVER".

As my last "Check for updates" took 2.5 days to find anything, with it set as NEVER it could take a lot longer. There is more to life.

Has anyone got a solution that actually works? There are numerous other forums all with the same problem, still looking in vein.

Regards in hope.

Quick and Easy Way to List All the Windows Updates Installed on Your System | Gizmo's Freeware
Some programs, such as Belarc Advisor, will include a list of updates in an overall analysis of what is on your computer. This type of comprehensive survey of your computer’s contents is worthwhile but there is also an easier way to get a list of Windows updates. This method takes advantage of the command line and requires no installation of additional software. Open the command prompt and enter this command:

wmic qfe list brief /format:htable > "%USERPROFILE%\hotfix.html"

This produces a nicely formatted list in an HTML file named hotfix.html that gets placed in the User folder. You can, of course, change the destination to some other convenient location. If there are any spaces in the name of a folder that you choose, don’t forget to wrap the destination name in quotes, as is done in the commands given in this tip.

If you would rather have a text file, the command would be:

wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\hotfix.txt"

Determining the Current Version of WUA (Windows)
Determine the version of Windows Update Agent (WUA) before you use it. The current version of WUA is determined by the version of the Wuaueng.dll that is running in the \System32 subdirectory of the current Windows installation. If the version of Wuaueng.dll is version 5.4.3790.1000 or a later version, WUA is installed. A version that is earlier than 5.4.3790.1000 indicates that Software Update Services (SUS) 1.0 is installed.

Where are checkdisk/scandisk logs ? - Windows 7 Help Forums
if I remember try..

Go to Start > Run and type: eventvwr.msc /s , and hit enter.
When Event Viewer opens, click on "Application", then scroll
down to "Winlogon" and double-click on it. This is the log
created after running Checkdisk.

In Event viewer, under Application logs, you need to double click on "wininit".

"Winlogon" is applicable for XP.
