App Engine datastore tip: monotonically increasing values are bad « Ikai Lan says
If you rapidly insert a series of values to a table the table gets split to handle the load. If the field is indexed, and the values are sequencial then the table split won't help.

High concurrency counters without sharding - Nick's Blog
Use memcache to increment a counter; flush it to DB occasionally. Improves throughput with only a small chance that the increments to the count will be lost.

Simply Scala
A REPL for Scala written in Google AppEngine -- *except*, that you get a fresh interpreter for each submission; it doesn't persist the data in your session. (Which makes it close to useless.)

Aral Balkan - Why Google App Engine is broken and what Google must do to fix it.
Criticism of Google App Engine -- and valid points, too. Some of the quotas are poorly implemented, and others are serious flaws: no data structures over 1 MB?! And no automatic scaling in response to jumps in traffic?

Interesting observation: Google's new platform (Google App Engine) handles the issue of identity and logins for you. But in doing so, it makes the developer of the web application beholden to Google. Open ID would be better.
