What's a CPU to do when it has nothing to do? [LWN.net]
Many CPUs (including Intel) have multiple "idle states" they can enter (but there is a cost to enter the state). They made Linux smarter about which to use and when to enter which reduced idle power consumption by 20%.

Air Force may suffer collateral damage from PS3 firmware update
This is the kind of thing that happens when a company removes a feature from their hardware after releasing it (by sending out an "upgrade" that downgrades it). The air force had networked thousands of PS3s running Linux, then Sony removed the ability to run Linux.

Unchecked malloc s in libjack thread.c and libjack intclient.c
Article recommends NOT checking the return value of malloc(), because it doesn't do what it once did, and recovery is pretty close to impossible anyhow.
