Google Just Announced a Major Search Algorithm Change That Users Will Probably Love, and Some Businesses May Absolutely Hate | Inc.com
Google is now using it's groundbreaking work in natural language processing (Bert) to process (at least some of) its search requests.

Would you give up Google for $17,000 a year? The Fed wants to know
Perhaps the current unexplained economic expansion is due to GDP failing to count the value of free internet services. Surveys of people rank search as the most valuable by FAR.

Google+ Is Going To Mess Up The Internet
Google's +1 vote buttons cause Google's search results to favor discussion pages (like Google+ discussion pages) over the original content being discussed. That's bad.

Agile Tortoise Blog - Wolfram Alpha doesn't "get it"
IPhone app developer links to Wolfram Alpha with search terms pre-populated if searches in his own app come up blank. Wolfram complains this violates their TOS (it does). What a silly issue to complain about, and what a waste of money to use lawyers as the first means of contact.

Whimsley: Googling Barbie Again
This is the most cogent criticism of Google as a search engine that I have read in quite some time. Points out that the results for seaching for "barbie" used to include near the top Matel sites as well as counter-culture sites. Today, it's all Matel sites and Google-owned stuff (plus wikipedia).

The Next Phase of the Internet
Interesting idea: Google transformed the internet by providing search. The next transformation will be filtering, and it may not come from Google. I'm not sure if I agree... search is quite closely related to filtering (after all, it's not the searching that's tricky, it's the ORDER of the results).
