Diary of a DASaster: DAS Gone Wild - CooperGeneral
In April, 2015, Public Safety agencies in Miami-Dade and Broward counties began experiencing Destructive Interference, the likes of which are rarely seen. Over a period of several days, communications for police, fire, and EMS services in dozens of jurisdictions were vastly impaired, with strange noises, dropped signals, and thousands of missed radio calls.

FCC issues violation notice to Nike for faulty DAS network card - FierceWirelessTech
"Citing a faulty UHF amplifier card in its corporate distributed antenna system (DAS) network, the FCC's Enforcement Bureau issued a Notice of Violation to Nike. The underlying incident occurred on Nov. 18, 2014, when an Enforcement Bureau agent traced interfering signals to Nike's corporate DAS network in Hillsboro, Ore., according to a Hogan Lovells blog. The agent identified a defective UHF amplifier card in the SOLiD Technologies DAS at the remote hub."

MNOs want small cells to be cheap and on licensed spectrum - PolicyTracker June 2014
"Mobile network operators (MNOs) and infrastructure vendors among others attended the Small Cells World Summit in London this week. Small cells are considered to be a more efficient use of spectrum, because they allow spectrum to be re-used geographically, but are still much more expensive to roll out than a network of macro cells." "During a panel session, CTOs from prominent MNOs emphasised the importance of keeping costs down. A distributed antenna system in particular was highlighted by [Benoit Graves, small cell project manager at Orange] as a solution that is too expensive to be widely used." "However, the panel acknowledged that one thing keeping the cost of small cells high is the need to build out fibre to make small cells viable" "Qualcomm’s senior vice president of product management Dan Rabinovitsj told the conference there does not need to be a distinction between the use of licensed and unlicensed spectrum. He promoted the use of LTE-U technology [in 5GHz]"

Input sought on new siting rules that would expand broadband rollouts - FierceWirelessTech Dec 2013
"The public now has a chance to comment on an FCC plan to loosen a number of siting restrictions, which, among other things, could promote the construction and rollout of small cells and distributed antenna systems (DAS). The FCC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in late September, and text of the NPRM was just published in the Federal Register, which means comment deadlines have finally been set. Comments are due on Feb. 3, while replies will be due on March 5."

AT&T upgrades network at Broncos stadium with largest cell site - The Denver Post
"I write the Broncos a check for upwards of $12,000 a year, and going to the stadium and knowing that you can't use your phone is unacceptable to me." AT&T ... recently poured more than $10 million into a network upgrade at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The carrier added the equivalent of 11 cell towers... The team also says that this is the first season where fans are uploading more than they are downloading while at the stadium, by a 60 to 40 margin. AT&T outfitted the stands, concessions and major entrances with a distributed antenna system. The carrier installed 325 directional antennas... Verizon Wireless... performed a similar upgrade in late 2011. The Broncos Wi-Fi system is currently only available for Verizon subscribers...

AT&T makes inroads with DAS, tops 400 LTE markets - FierceBroadbandWireless
"Installation of DAS antennas throughout CenturyLink field is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), the three-year IP broadband investment plan announced last November. As part of Project VIP, the carrier pledged to to add more than 1,000 DAS nationwide by year-end 2015. It is also deploying 10,000 macro cell sites and more than 40,000 small cells under the program."

NFL lagging on stadium Wi-Fi | KDVR.comAug 2013
"In May 2012, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced an initiative to outfit all 31 NFL stadiums with Wi-Fi. But with the start of the 2013 regular season just days away, less than half of the NFL’s venues are Wi-Fi enabled and no stadiums have launched new Wi-Fi systems this year. Part of the reason for the delay is some stadium operators are waiting for the next generation of increased Wi-Fi speed before installing networks, said Paul Kapustka, editor in chief for Mobile Sports Report. Another reason, Kapustka said, is that the cost of installing Wi-Fi will come out of the pockets of venue owners and operators who have traditionally not needed to invest in such costly projects. Instead, they receive public money to help build stadiums and television money for the right to broadcast games."

All four national mobile carriers to use NYC subway DAS - FierceBroadbandWireless April 2013
"The neutral-host DAS has already signed as anchor tenants AT&T (NYSE:T) and T-Mobile USA, which are using the DAS to extend their wireless voice and data services into the subway. Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) are also finalizing contracts to deliver their services via the DAS." "In May 2012, Boingo Wireless announced an agreement with Transit to manage and operate Wi-Fi Internet services within the New York City subway system. Boingo is using Transit's DAS to expand its sponsored Wi-Fi hotspot offering. "

DAS In Action: DAS firms need to respect utilities - RCR Wireless News
"Utility companies and DAS providers are often at odds because under federal law, utilities are forced to let communications companies attach to their poles. However, utility companies say the blanket law does not take into account that some poles do not have enough room for communications companies, which need to be at the top of the pole. In addition, utilities maintain they are subsidizing the deployment of broadband services at the expense of their employees' safety. Utility companies have taken the Federal Communications Commission to court over April 7 pole-attachment rulings that they say are unfair."
