NodeXL: Network Overview, Discovery and Exploration for Excel - Crowdfunding "Sentiment" - Anyone interested? Here is our plan for a feature
NodeXL has some content analysis features, but many people ask for "sentiment". Some of us have a very negative sentiment about sentiment, but we do understand the need for a way to measure the orientation of a collection of content. We have a design for a feature that we think will provide many of the services of a sentiment system with more transparency and flexibility. We plan to allow NodeXL users to edit the names and contents of three lists of words.

Trust issues and Excel: how to open other people’s NodeXL documents
When you download a NodeXL workbook from a different machine (perhaps from http://nodexlgraphgallery.org) you may get an error like this one that mentions “trusted locations”.

Connected Action NodeXL Graph Server Importer - Home
From Marc, 17 Feb 2015: Next time you open NodeXL: poof! No more Import from NodeXL Graph Server! We removed it. You must now install the separate Connected Action NodeXL Graph Server importer from https://graphserverimporter.codeplex.com/ Then restart NodeXL The same credentials continue to work in this new importer. This importer has several improvements: - sticky credentials: log in once and never again! - integrated 3 importers: Twitter, Facebook Pages and Facebook Groups

Dr. Cody Dunne speaks about Network Motif Simplification at the recent CHI 2013 conference in Paris, France -- www.connectedaction.net
"His paper with Prof. Ben Shneiderman at CHI 2013, “Motif simplification: improving network visualization readability with fan, connector, and clique glyphs“, demonstrates a novel method for improving the quality of network visualizations. Common network motifs appear frequently in networks. In network motif simplification these patterns are removed and replaced with simpler composite images"

Motif Simplification: Improving Network Visualization Readability with Motif Glyphs - YouTube
"It is difficult to visualize large networks. Motif simplification reduces network complexity by replacing common, repeating patterns with representative glyphs. Our controlled study shows this is helpful for many tasks. For more details please see our full paper: Dunne C and Shneiderman B (2013), "Motif simplification: improving network visualization readability with fan, connector, and clique glyphs", In CHI '13: Proc. 2013 international conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. It is available online here: http://www.cs.umd.edu/~cdunne/hcil/pu..."

NodeXL updates Twitter user and list importer - Jun 2014
NodeXL has new updates to its importers for Twitter users and lists. We have released an updated version of NodeXL that simplifies and merges the previously separate User and List importers. The new, streamlined importer treats an individual user as a list of one. Lists can be defined by pointing to an existing Twitter List or simply entering a list of delimited user names into the text box.

Mapping Twitter Topic Networks: From Polarized Crowds to Community Clusters | Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project
"Conversations on Twitter create networks with identifiable contours as people reply to and mention one another in their tweets. These conversational structures differ, depending on the subject and the people driving the conversation. Six structures are regularly observed: divided, unified, fragmented, clustered, and inward and outward hub and spoke structures. These are created as individuals choose whom to reply to or mention in their Twitter messages and the structures tell a story about the nature of the conversation."

NodeXL: Learning from Visualizations of Social Media Networks - ProfHacker - The Chronicle of Higher Education
"In last week’s post about social network analysis, I introduced NodeXL and its potential use for understanding online social networks. In this post, I want to focus on what we can learn from conference Twitter backchannel conversations, and how we can use software like NodeXL to improve the way we use social media to build computer-mediated scholarly networks."
