Confirmed: Facebook shifts away from AI… and like a miracle, the bots start working • The Register
So perhaps the future isn't virtual robot buddies replacing humans, but simple interactive mobile UIs replacing another technology: the 1990s-spawned nightmare of voice menus.

ETFs Are Like Politics. The Radical Gets Normalized. - Bloomberg View
Thus the Facebook page (or the YouTube channel) becomes to ideology, what the ETF is to investing. It eliminates the work required to go beyond plain vanilla, and it equalizes everything by placing all content into identical wrappers.

Mark Zuckerberg Says He's Not Running For President - BuzzFeed News
"If you look at the history of rich people from business or tech running for office, they almost always lose. That personality type is very different from running a company. The reality is if you’re Mark, with your wealth and platform,” then you’re better off as CEO of Facebook than as president, he said.

The Internet Economy — Medium
This would mean that AI interfaces — which in most cases will mean voice interfaces — could become the master routers of the internet economic loop, rendering many of the other layers interchangeable or irrelevant. Voice is mostly a novelty today, but in technology the next big thing often starts out looking that way.

How to Swallow $200 Million Accidentally — Medium
Facebook is probably going to kill Yelp. It’s probably not going to do it with a website called Welp. But when W goes from Will to Walmart after a decade, sleep with one eye open. That’s how you get iced.

Solving the Mystery of Link Imbalance: A Metastable Failure State at Scale | Engineering Blog | Facebook Code
The most literal conclusion to draw from this story is that MRU connection pools shouldn’t be used for connections that traverse aggregated links. At a meta-level, the next time you are debugging emergent behavior, you might try thinking of the components as agents colluding via covert channels. At an organizational level, this investigation is a great example of why we say that nothing at Facebook is somebody else’s problem.

Refriending Facebook | MIT Technology Review
If there is a somehow unethical use of emotions surrounding this experiment, it is the framing of fear used by the media to sell the story. Certainly, the media framed the story around ethics and fear for a reason: they know from their own click data that fear sells. Indeed, it is ironic that the media’s gut reaction to a study about emotional contagion was to flood news sources with negative emotions.
