Collective Intelligence - Handheld Unconference
"Hand Held was an unconference, organized with the National Film Board of Canada and St Michael's Hospital. It combined video and digital storytelling with traditional face-to-face conversation, to examine the challenges faced when young mothers who have experienced homelessness try to interact with the health care system.

The event brought together these young mothers along with health care professionals, academics, politicians and decision-makers, to look at these issues, and see how participatory media can help."

A Is for App: How Smartphones, Handheld Computers Sparked an Educational Revolution
"What's at issue is a deep cultural shift, a fundamental rethinking not only of how education is delivered but also of what "education" means. The very word comes from the Latin duco, meaning "to lead or command" -- putting the learner in the passive position. Rabi Kamacharya is an MIT engineering grad who returned to his native Kathmandu from Silicon Valley to found a software company and started OLE Nepal, the network's most established branch, in 2007. Kamacharya talks about technology putting "children in the driver's seat" -- to overcome the limited skills of teachers: "Even in urban areas, teachers who teach English, for example, do not know English very well. Children are at the mercy of the teachers, who may not be motivated or have sufficient materials to work with. We want to enable them to go forward with self-learning and assessment.""

Tinkerer’s Sunset [dive into mark]
"Once upon a time, Apple made the machines that made me who I am. I became who I am by tinkering. Now it seems they’re doing everything in their power to stop my kids from finding that sense of wonder. Apple has declared war on the tinkerers of the world. With every software update, the previous generation of “jailbreaks” stop working, and people have to find new ways to break into their own computers. There won’t ever be a MacsBug for the iPad. There won’t be a ResEdit, or a Copy ][+ sector editor, or an iPad Peeks & Pokes Chart. And that’s a real loss. Maybe not to you, but to somebody who doesn’t even know it yet."

Handheld Learning - learning with mobile and ubiquitous technologies - The New Apple Core
"Taking all of the above into consideration, I would argue that there is no better time than now to invest in Apple stock and in companies that are far down the learning curve on "location aware servers"."
