Moniker - Design & Technology
"Moniker is an Amsterdam based design studio founded in 2012 by Luna Maurer, Jonathan Puckey and Roel Wouters. With Moniker, which means nickname or pseudonym, we work on commissioned design projects while also investing in projects of an autonomous and experimental nature.

The studio works across various media for a diverse range of clients ranging from those in the cultural field to commercial companies.

With our projects, we explore the social effects of technology - how we use technology and how it influences our daily lives. Often, we ask the public to take part in the development of our projects. The resulting projects expand and grow like plants, displaying their inner organisational process.

Moniker specializes in interactive, print, video, physical installation and performance work."

Nina Lindgren
"I draw and create (and sometimes I also write) about things inside and surrounding. It interests me to come up with and to invent new realities and to tell the stories about them.

When it comes to arts and depicting it is an unsurpassed freedom to be able to bend and govern over what otherwise are rules and regulations. I search for sudden glimpses of unreality: preferably unforeseen and unpredictable to make virtual both real and pretended. If I draw a house balancing on one tiny piece of plank it will never fall, unless I want it to. In these own worlds you are the one to decide what reality is and what to be part of another's consciousness."

Superfamous - Folkert Gorter
"Disclaimer: As you read this, you do not really see the pixels, the screen, your hands, and the surroundings, but an internal and three-dimensional image that reproduces them almost exactly and that is constructed by your brain. The photons emitted by your screen strike the retina of your eyes, which transform them into electrochemical information; the optic nerves relay this information to the visual cortex at the back of the head, where a cascade-like network of nerve cells separates the input into categories (form, color, movement, depth, etc.).

How the brain goes about reuniting these sets of categorized information into a coherent image is still a mystery. This also means that the neurological basis of consciousness is unknown. (source = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cosmic_Serpent )"

"I'm an Interaction Designer/Idustrial Designer from Michigan currently living in Genova, Italy. I graduated from the IXD Masters course at the Umea Institute of Design in June 2009. I'm really into food, design, anything off-beat, early synth music, and other humans. A lot of the projects on this site should be viewed as design fiction, I don't mean for the object to be the product but for the experience or idea to be the product...That can't be said about everything on this site though. If you'd like to collaborate on something, have a job you think I could help you with, or just want to say hello please send me an email. Thanks for being here and enjoy."

Hyper Island
"Hyper Island started in 1995 when Jonathan Briggs, David Erixon and Lars Lundh met during a project involving a CD-rom production. They soon realized the increasing need of a different kind of education involving industry based learning, for the growing new media industry. The first long term program at Hyper Island started in Karlskrona 1996 with 32 students.

ELEMENTAL
"ELEMENTAL is a Do Tank affiliated to the PUCA de Chile and COPEC, its focus is the design and implementation of urban projects of social interest and public impact. ELEMENTAL is based in three principles: A. To think, design and build better neighborhoods, housing and the necessary urban infrastructure to promote social development and overcome the circle of poverty and inequity of our cities; B. In order to trigger a relevant qualitative leap-forward, our projects must be built under the same market and policy conditions than any other, working to achieve “more with the same”. C. By quality we understand projects whose design guarantees incremental value and returns on investment over time, in order to stop considering it a mere “social expense”. In this spirit, ELEMENTAL contributes to improve the quality of life in Chilean cities, providing state of the art architecture and engineering, understanding the city as an unlimited resource to build social equity."

Beyond Portfolios « The Elementary Educator [via: http://www.buzzmachine.com/2009/02/20/a-portfolio-instead-of-a-diploma/]
"After 13 years of work getting a K-12 education, why is it that all a student has to show for it is a diploma?...our goals should be much different: *writing: students should have a very rich blog w/ 100s of quality posts + several major self-published pieces *science: have >= 1 patent and/or 1 invention that they’ve actually created a prototype for *math: be able to balance checkbook, understand how to stay out of debt & avoid credit spending, understand how to interpret biased statistics & advertisements; able to solve any real-world math problem they may encounter *social studies: be able to read every article in newspaper & understand article’s significance & historical events that have led up to event + geography of location(s) being discussed + religious & political backgrounds of people/groups involved *Finally: students should be heading to post-K-12 life with plan for future, rather than just heading to college because everyone is doing it."

skforlee [some good design in the portfolio and I like the bio too]
"Sherwood Forlee is a designer with no design or art education. Instead, he studied fluid dynamics and partial differential equations, and then barely managed to graduate. But graduate he did, and with a high-falutin' sounding title to boot: "Mechanical and Aerospace Engineer". Despite this, Sherwood calls himself a designer because it sounds hip and no one likes hanging around a nerd at a party."
