Proximity Designs :: Proximity Home Page
"New solutions to ancient problems

Proximity Designs is an award-winning, social enterprise based in Yangon, Myanmar. We design and deliver affordable, income-boosting products and services that complement the entrepreneurial spirit of rural families.

We design for impact
Increasing incomes across rural Myanmar

In a country where 70% of the population depends on agriculture, improvements in farming technology and techniques - and the credit to access them - are vital to improving living conditions and ending poverty.

That’s where we come in."

The Wisdom Manifesto - Umair Haque - Harvard Business Review
"scarcest, rarest & most valuable resource in world today is wisdom...isn't about what you "value" — about how everyone values you. To get wise, articulate your essence: the change you want to see in the world. That means literally crafting a statement of intent about "the world", like Google: "to organize the world's information & make it universally accessible."...Wisdom...requires space for experimentation & play — for people to find new ways to change the world. Google's 20% time is going the way of dinosaur — & so, unfortunately, is its wisdom. If you don't get time at work to ignite wise ideas, ask for some, or better yet: take some...Wisdom's battle is the real one: never to compromise your essence, the way you want to change the world. Wise organizations — like wise people — spend time every day examining whether the rot of compromise has led, unintentionally, to self-defeat...Set an example...ceaseless quest for learning...Strategy is obsolete. It's time to wise up."

How Startl Is Hacking Education From the Outside In | Fast Company
"What would happen if you took the principles of a startup incubator like Y Combinator and applied it to improving education? A new philanthropic venture called Startl aims to find out. The non-profit startup accelerator is being backed by some of the world's best-known foundations (Gates, Hewlett, MacArthur), and has for-profit partners including IDEO, DreamIT Ventures, and investment bankers Berkeley & Noyes. Startl is entirely focused on educational entrepreneurs. Co-founder and Managing director Phoenix Wang, formerly of Accenture Consulting, iVillage, and then the Hewlett Foundation, is holding the organization's first five-day "bootcamp" for ideas in mobile learning from March 15-19. Fast Company caught up with Wang to learn more and find out what's coming next."
