Welcome to CicloSDias San Diego, California
""Ciclovía," which translates to English as "bike path" was coined in Bogota, Columbia, a city that began experimenting with its model Ciclovia initiative in 1974 as a response to the congestion and pollution of city streets. CicloSDias San Diego is modeled after similar car-free events held in cities around the world, including New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. As of 2012, some 80 Open Streets initiatives are held regularly in North America. CicloSDias is all about connecting communities and giving people a break from the stress of car traffic. CicloSDias San Diego will bring families outside of their homes to enjoy car free streets. The message is clear – we all want a clean, healthy and vibrant San Diego.

CicloSDias welcomes everyone in San Diego to walk, ride, stroll and enjoy our streets. Approximately 5.2 miles of city streets will be opened to families, pedestrians, cyclists, joggers, skateboarders, and anyone else interested in using this public space in a new way.

The event will include a “Hub” in 4 different neighborhoods in San Diego – City Heights, Logan Heights, North Park, and South Park. These Hubs will feature CicloSDias merchandise, showcase event sponsors, and host a bicycle repair booth. Event participants are encouraged to check-in at each Hub and receive a free entry into our Bike raffle.

San Diegans will experience a free ‘open street’ event with activities along the route. Shops and restaurants will be open for business and neighbors and friends from all over will make our streets come alive."

San Diego Space Society
"The San Diego Space Society (“SD Space”) was founded in 2008 with the purpose of raising awareness and educating the general public to the benefits of human exploration of space and San Diego’s role in space development, as well as to the idea of creating a spacefaring civilization within our lifetimes.

General meetings are held regularly at the Serra Mesa library, and SD Space members participate in many other local space events. Details of each meeting will be posted to the calendar. The general public is welcome to attend any meeting or event listed on this site.

SD Space is headquartered at the Space Travelers Emporium [http://emporium.sdspace.org/ ], a storefront and workshop in the South Park neighborhood."

Stone Company Store coming to South Park | San Diego Beer Blog
"There have been some rumors floating around for a while about Stone Brewing Co. opening a tasting room in South Park (first reported in San Diego Citybeat). Well those rumors just got official. Below is the email we just received from Stone. No word on the exact location, but we’ll let you know when we hear back.

"Stone Brewing Co. is proud to announce plans to open a Stone Company Store in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego. Stone believes that South Park—with it’s central location, pedestrian/bike friendly streets, and strong sense of local community—is the perfect location.""

Velo Cult Reconstructs the Bike Shop as a Welcoming Community Space | Sheepless.org
"This is not a place where greasy, scabby-kneed road warriors intimidate you with their superior knowledge of how your bike works. In fact, Velo Cult exists in direct opposition to that style of bike shop...When it was time to move again to yet a bigger spot, Sky looked where his customers lived—the then up-and-coming South Park area of San Diego. Immediately he came across a dilapidated shell of a building in the middle of major renovations and had a vision of the bike shop he had always wanted to be a part of. High ceilings would allow bikes to climb the walls and hang overhead, a wide open shop floor could showcase unique bikes or be cleared for parties and movie screenings, and a loading dock in place of a street-facing wall literally opened the space out onto the street in Southern California’s year-round ideal weather...What he has, instead, is an entirely new community-oriented business, and seems to be having a great time figuring out each new direction." [Love this place.]
