Cipherli.st - Strong Ciphers for Apache, nginx and Lighttpd
The above ciphers are Copy Pastable in your nginx, Lighttpd or Apache config. These provide Strong SSL Security for all modern browsers, plus you get an A+ on the SSL Labs Test. In short, they set a strong Forward Secrecy enabled ciphersuite, they disable SSLv2 and SSLv3, add HTTP Strict Transport Security and X-Frame-Deny headers and enable OCSP Stapling (except on Lighttpd, it does not support that yet).

How to Create a Large Wireless Network
One day I had to install a network for 8,500 square feet (850 m2) of living space, all on one level, and cover almost an acre of land outdoors. That required several wireless devices, all connected together.

It's easy to do, but only if you know which secret boxes to click in the set up program.

Oddly no one has written down how to do it — until now.

Here's how.

Structuring Sinatra Applications
I love Sinatra. I use it for practically everything. For me, Sinatra has the perfect blend of simplicity and abstraction. I can understand the full stack, dip into the source when I need to, and extend the framework how I see fit.

However the bare-bones nature of Sinatra can come at a cost. Sinatra leaves much more of the decision making around your application's structure, layout and libraries up to you. This can be a bit daunting if you're just getting into Ruby web app development, which I think is one of the reasons why Sinatra is mainly the realm of more experienced developers looking for a bloat-free alternative to Rails.

Over the years I've put together a few conventions that I share between all my Sinatra apps, and in this article I'm going to elaborate on those. I've also created a gem called Trevi which, if you want to follow this approach, will go ahead and do all the manual lifting for you by generating a Sinatra scaffold.

Best of both worlds: Setting up Wi-Fi for iOS on 2.4 and 5GHz | Ars Technica
Since about 2007, Apple has also built support for 802.11n Wi-Fi on the 5GHz band into its computers and Airport line of Wi-Fi base stations. Now, the iPhone 5, the latest iPod touch, the fourth-generation iPad, and the iPad mini also have that support. So, how do you set up a Wi-Fi network that makes the most of this confluence of Wi-Fi bands?

Chef is a tool for turning your servers into code. Chef is awesome. It took me a while to realize it, though. How to: Install a Debian/Ubuntu package (.deb) cache server - apt-cacher | Linux Operating System - Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Gentoo, Arch
If you have more than one PC using Debian or Ubuntu, you know that upgrading them makes most of the time download the same files more than once, and that is not good for your bandwidth. I usually forward my requests to my Squid (in my office) and to my Personal proxy Polipo at home, it works, but apt-cacher may be a better approach as the way it decides if a file stays or is erased from the cache is more appropriate for .deb package than in Squid or Polipo, as they are optimized for web surfing.

Make Compiz Run Smoothly and Without Tearing | Tombuntu
For a long time it has bothered me that Compiz does not seem to run as smoothly as Metacity on my desktop system. With desktop effects switched off, moving windows around the screen would seem smoother. With desktop effects switched on, I’d also notice tearing in areas of the screen with fast motion including in videos. I was fiddling with Compiz settings recently and managed to fix the problem entirely. Now, if your graphics card struggles to run Compiz this will probably not help you. But if you have a decent graphics card (mine is a nVidia GeForce 8600 GT) give this a try if you have noticed this problem.
