Irreconcilable differences: Why the Players Coalition split apart
“When it comes to the deal itself, I’m not sure there is a deal,” Edwards says when asked about the validity of the partnership. “As I look at it, the devil isn’t in the details, it’s in the delivery. … There’s nothing wrong with the civil rights bill or the voting rights bill or the equal housing opportunity bill or the Brown vs. the Board of Education decision — except it breaks down at the point of delivery. Unless you substantially control and manage the delivery, you’ve been took, you’ve been had, you’ve been bamboozled.”

The uncertainty over so many of foundational details was another factor in why some players contend they broke from the coalition. One asked; “How can you agree to something without knowing the details of how it will work?” Boldin and Jenkins understand the criticism but contend they were running out of time to get anything at all done. And on the eve of the Super Bowl, there is now a formal committee and a process for identifying recipients, says Boldin. On the national level, the Players Coalition has chosen recipients including the United Negro College Fund to receive monies from the first round of funding.

NFL, Some Players Reach $89 Million Deal That Could Still Include Protests
“It has been reported that Reid’s disagreements with the coalition range from Colin Kaepernick’s role in the conversations to the composition of the committee designed to oversee the distribution of the $89 million. That committee will be comprised of 12 individuals—five players, five owners and two representatives from the NFL. Doing some quick math… that’s a score of 7-5 in the NFL’s favor—and likely a strong incentive for Reid and Thomas (among others) to exit the coalition.”

Why We Haven’t Met Any Aliens § SEEDMAGAZINE.COM
I suggest a different, even darker solution to the Paradox. Basically, I think the aliens don’t blow themselves up; they just get addicted to computer games. They forget to send radio signals or colonize space because they’re too busy with runaway consumerism and virtual-reality narcissism. They don’t need Sentinels to enslave them in a Matrix; they do it to themselves, just as we are doing today. Once they turn inwards to chase their shiny pennies of pleasure, they lose the cosmic plot. They become like a self-stimulating rat, pressing a bar to deliver electricity to its brain’s ventral tegmental area, which stimulates its nucleus accumbens to release dopamine, which feels…ever so good.

Honda brings special skill to GM's Cruise self-driving venture
Honda's investment puts Cruise's value at $14.6 billion — $3.1 billion more than when SoftBank Vision Fund announced plans to invest $2.25 billion in the operations in May.

Honda's investment appears to be qualitatively different from SoftBank's, as it's expected to be more hands-on and expands the Japanese automaker's ties with GM.

SoftBank to Invest $2.25B Into Cruise, GM's Self-Driving Car Unit | Fortune
"Japan’s SoftBank plans to invest $2.25 billion into GM’s self-driving car unit Cruise to help bring fleets of autonomous vehicles to market faster. Softbank’s investment, made from its Vision Fund, will give the company (SFTBY, -0.76%) a 19.6% stake in Cruise, which has been operating as a separate unit from GM. GM (GM, -0.38%) said Thursday it will also invest $1.1 billion into GM’s Cruise upon closing of the transaction." -- "The Softbank investment in Cruise will be made in two parts. The first tranche of $900 million will be made at the closing of the transaction. Once Cruise’s autonomous vehicles are ready for commercial deployment, Softbank will complete the second investment of $1.35 billion. Softbank and GM Cruise have agreed to a 7-year term before either party can seek liquidity outside of the partnership."
