Strings
Windows equivalent of Linux/Unix strings command to list strings from within a binary file. Free download. Unzip, runs straight out of the box. Accept license first time run, won't ask thereafter. Useful for reverse engineering proprietary binary files.

Want Perl equivalent of linux strings command to extract strings from binary file - HowtoForge Forums | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials
Really wanted to be able to run strings dependent Perl script on Windows to be able to debug in Komodo IDE. Rather than find pure Perl equivalent, I was advised a workaround to just download strings for Windows at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897439.aspx This works straight out of the box
