Introduction to Logstash | Webinar | Elasticsearch
During this webinar, Aaron Mildenstein, a developer at Elasticsearch, will share a brief presentation as an introduction to Logstash, and then show a live demo.

The demo portion will go from “bare-metal” to fully-installed and functional Logstash with searchable results in 15 to 20 minutes (even with running commentary and explanation!) to showcase just how quickly and easily you can start to gain value from the data in your logs.

The Xapian Project
Xapian is an Open Source Search Engine Library, released under the GPL. It's written in C++, with bindings to allow use from Perl, Python, PHP, Java, Tcl, C#, Ruby, Lua and Erlang (so far!)

Xapian is a highly adaptable toolkit which allows developers to easily add advanced indexing and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also supports a rich set of boolean query operators.

If you're after a packaged search engine for your website, you should take a look at Omega: an application we supply built upon Xapian. Unlike most other website search solutions, Xapian's versatility allows you to extend Omega to meet your needs as they grow.

A fast, fuzzy, full-text index using Redis | PlayNice.ly
The old reverse-index search solution, but introduces the idea of using metaphones (or double-metaphones) as the keys to account for misspellings. Contrast with using trigrams, which gives you good middle-of-word matches.

Wowd: Discover what's popular on the web
p2p search "browser app". Interesting concept, where visits to a site give a web page a vote (much as a link gives a vote to a web page in Google's PageRank). I wonder if the major search engines use any of this idea through their browser toolbars? Privacy policies might exclude that.
