How to pass a programming interview - Triplebyte Blog
I fundamentally do not believe that good programmers should have to learn special interviewing skills to do well on interviews. But the status quo is what it is. We’re working at Triplebyte to change this.

While I am learning Python, what else should I be learning to supplement my resume? : learnpython
Yes, pick up Git as fast as you can, you want the basics of working in a repo to be muscle memory; learn as much of the standard library as you can, I'd tend to say re, itertools, sqlite3, and subprocess are all going to give solid return on time invested. As are support modules like logging and argparse, both of which you're going to be seeing a lot of. Try to develop solid chops writing and running unit tests, it's very helpful to know unittest for that.

Outside of Python try and be at least conversationally familiar with concepts like Agile Development, Continuous Integration/Deployment and Test Driven Development, as in you've read the Wikipedia entries on those terms and know some of the bywords. You'll find that's going to help with getting through the filter screen of first pass HR people.

Python interview questions. Part III. Senior
We all know that senior is not just a technical role that bound with years of experience and knowledge about his tools, they also have mentoring skills, some management skills in order to measure tasks and their time, and they tend to have some architecture skills etc. My questions here is only for technical side of Python senior developers.

How I took a break from Job Searching and let Python do it for me.
If only I could do this entire chore of going through each and every job title, job description and eliminating unsuitable ones and consolidating the right ones in one place. Well, yes I can, with Python.

Can you trust your recruiter to get you the highest salary possible?
Tell your recruiter you prefer to handle the salary part of the discussion, and that you aren’t comfortable sharing your salary information. If that’s a problem for them, find a different recruiter.

Two Texas Cities Named Finalists in Race for Amazon's HQ2
I'm more interested at this point in where Apple is going to put its 20,000 people, but yay I guess. Amazon allegedly seems to have tipped its hand by starting leasing activity in Boston, which if true is surprising to me because Taxachusetts, but testifies that higher education still has some power. Bit surprised that at this stage Detroit is out and Columbus, OH is in.

10 common mistakes aspiring/new pentesters make – PentesterLab
Reversing and writing exploits are amazing things to do and you should definitely look into these two domains. However, if you want to break into infosec and score your first job, you need to be good at web (and mobile and network to a lesser extend) security. Most pentesting companies have a lot of their workload composed of web testing and this is not going to change in the next few months. Furthermore, they also have seniors people who are dying to do more research and will probably have priority on all the reversing/exploit writing jobs. So if you want to increase your likelihood of getting hired, you need to become a gun at web pentesting.

Facebook Job Ads Raise Concerns About Age Discrimination - The New York Times
Other tech companies also offer employers opportunities to discriminate by age. ProPublica bought job ads on Google and LinkedIn that excluded audiences older than 40 — and the ads were instantly approved. Google said it does not prevent advertisers from displaying ads based on the user’s age. After being contacted by ProPublica, LinkedIn changed its system to prevent such targeting in employment ads.

What Texas can teach us | Michael Barone | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner
"The lesson of the previous decade seems clear: if you take a previously prosperous and creative state and subject it to high taxes and intrusive regulations, it loses 5% of its private sector jobs; if you take a previously somewhat less prosperous and creative state and govern it with low taxes and light regulation, it gains 9% more jobs, even as the nation’s economy is suffering. Best Job Market for U.S. Grads Since 2008 - Bloomberg
"Job creation is booming in Silicon Valley, where postings have doubled from two years ago at technology career website Dice Holdings Inc.

“It’s quite a stunning comeback,” said Lance Choy, director of the career development center at Stanford University near Palo Alto, California. “Over the past couple of years there’s been a lot of anxiety. It’s been a bleak time for students. We’ve come back from quite a dip.” "

Why U.S. IT jobs aren't coming back | Adventures in IT - InfoWorld
And IT (as well as finance and HR) face another job-destroying trend, Hackette says: increased automation. "Full transactional process automation and enablement of self-service options will eventually eliminate much HR, IT, finance, and procurement work altogether and will continue to be the most sustainable strategy for structural efficiency improvement," the report says. So at some point, Indian and other offshore IT workers will go through what U.S. and European ones are now.

How Prepare for and Rock a Behavioral Job Interview | The Art of Manliness
I got the call-back and scheduled an interview with a company executive. Before I flew out to my interview, a friend of mine who knew this person tipped me off on the executive’s interview style. The executive liked to use behavioral interviewing to weed out candidates for positions. I had never heard of this interview style before, so I set out to research as much as I could about it, aiming to be as prepared as possible.

Advice: After Years With an Employer, Jumping Back Into the Interview Process - Laid Off And Looking - WSJ
If you’ve kept the same job for many years, it’s important to brush up on the interview process. “Just going in with your resume with little or no practical interviewing practice is a fatal mistake,” says Nick D’Ambrosio, president of First Round Search, a California-based search and career development firm. The candidate “may have a better background but they will lose to someone who is better at interviewing.”

Job Hunting: Price Yourself Like a House
The most common mistake job-seekers make is to price their skills based on their current or most recent comp level. If you're in a high-paying industry or company, your past or current salary could be the perfect measure of what you're worth in the market. But if you're not—if you've come from or are still working in one of the many companies paying below-market salaries—you'd be shooting yourself in the foot by relying on your past employer's assessment of your value.
